Northlake Christian Lower School
July Newsletter - 2017
A Note from Ms. Arnold, Principal
Everything's coming up daisies here at Northlake Christian School in preparation for the new school year.
We are continuously acknowledging and thanking God for His favor and faithfulness. There is still a lot more work to be done, so please continue to pray for everyone involved in the transformation. We ask that you continue to join us in prayer as we begin a new season here at Northlake Christian School as we celebrate our 40th Anniversary during the 2017-2018 school year.
Here are a few things that you will need to know to begin your school year. We are eager to see each of you at Open House on Friday, August 11 from 9:00-11:00. For now, I remain,
Sincerely yours,
Ms. Arnold, M.Ed.
Lower School Principal
A Note from Mrs. Krone, Academic Dean
Since summer schedules can be busy, we want to make this as easy as possible! Below, you can find the Lower School Summer Reading and Math requirements. As with all things, practice over time refines skills. Please encourage your children to pace themselves over the course of the summer months.
Whether you stay in or venture out, we pray you and your family have a safe and enjoyable summer. Thank you for partnering with us to start the 2017-2018 school year strong.
We cannot wait to see you in August!
Sincerely,
Mrs. Krone, M.Ed.
Lower School Academic Dean
School Supply List from Home
This year, the school supply packs were pre-paid with your fees. However, below, you will find a list of items that your child(ren) will need to bring from home on either Open House day or on the first day of school.
Open House
Welcome NEW and RETURNING students...
Open House is scheduled for Friday, August 11 from 9:00-11:00 A.M. This is the time to meet teachers, new friends, bring supplies from home that were not included in the supply packet, and have any questions answered.
First Day of School
Students and parents will report to the gym by 8:00 A.M. where we will begin our school year together as one body with prayer instead of the Lower School hallway. The students will begin their first day by having their names read aloud during our brief assembly and go to their classrooms with their teachers. Parents are welcome to follow for pictures and brief good-byes.
Please note that kindergarten boys – 4th grade begin on August 14 (kindergarten girls are off); kindergarten girls begin on August 15 (kindergarten boys are off) and should be brought directly to their classrooms or dropped off in morning carpool.
Parent Orientation Night
K-4th grade Parent Orientation Night is scheduled for Thursday, August 24 in the classrooms. We understand that parents have children in multiple grade levels. Therefore, the teachers will be available for two sessions. The schedule for the evening is as follows:
- 5:30-6:15 - Session 1 in classrooms
- 6:30-7:00 - Address from the Board of Directors in slim gym
- 7:15-8:00 - Session 2 in classrooms
For clarification, here is a list of all Parent Orientation Nights:
- August 4 - ELC
- August 22 - Middle School
- August 24 - Lower School
- August 29 - Upper School
Box Tops
In an effort to encourage students to bring in Box Tops and to cut down on the amount of time that is needed to bundle them in groups of fifty as required from the Box Tops program, we would like to invite the students to participate in submitting Box Tops by using this ABC Box Tops Sheet.pdf to access the Box Tops template.
NEW INCENTIVES:
We’ve enhanced our incentive program this year. We will not be offering free dress down days on Fridays. Instead, the students will work together at the various grade levels (not homerooms) to submit the most Box Tops per month. On Pizza Days, the grade level with the most Box Tops for the month can vote on ONE, agreed upon reward from the following list to be used at the teachers’ discretion /time frame: homework pass in math or spelling, extra 15 minutes of recess, +5 bonus points on a test, 10 extra minutes on an iPad game, free dress day, or being first in the lunch line for a week. The winning grade levels will be announced in chapel on the Thursday before each Pizza Day. Additionally, each student within the grade level that wins the most monthly contests, will receive an end of the year incentive (TBA) at Awards Day in May. To help reward individual students, whose grade levels do not win but who chose to participate, these students will receive one free dress day at the end of each semester – December and May.
PLEASE NOTE:
- Box Tops should be affixed to the attached template.
- We encourage you to photo copy your own sheets.
- Each completed sheet can only be redeemed by one individual child.
- You may NOT print Box Tops off of the Internet. The Box Tops MUST be clipped from actual General Mills products.
- Check the expiration dates on the Box Tops.
You may begin sending in the completed Box Tops sheets at any time of the year.
We ask for you to carefully consider visiting the Participating Box Tops Products page and selecting some of these products the next time you are at the grocery store.
ACT Aspire Scores
The results from the 3rd and 4th grade ACT Aspire testing will not be available to us from the company until August or September. Please expect the test results along with detailed explanations of the scores to help you with interpreting the scores to be mailed to your home once they have arrived.
Lower School Chapel
We welcome you to join us anytime for our Lower School chapel (K-4) to be held on Thursday of each week from 8:15-9:00 in the gym.
Lower School Picture Day
Lower School student pictures are scheduled for Wednesday, August 23. Please look for the Barberito Photographer order form in your Open House packets. Your order will need to be submitted on or before the day of pictures. Please make every effort to have your child at school.
