From the Director
Dear CDS Community,
Once again, I'd like to thank all the parents and family members who showed up for our first annual Self Determined Learning (SDL) Showcase last Tuesday evening. The night was a big success, and that wouldn't have been possible without your participation and engagement.
I'm so glad our 7th and 8th grade students had the opportunity to share their hard work, research, and interests with all of you. CDS Middle School is very fortunate to have dedicated teachers like Mr. Drews and Mr. Thach who coached these students throughout the year and organized this memorable evening. We're already looking forward to seeing how the program will evolve next year.
Final Exams: On Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday next week students will sit for their end of year exams. I know this can be an overwhelming time for many students. As such, I hope everyone found some balance this weekend. I hope students found time to study, but were also able to get some exercise, spend time with family and friends, and get plenty of rest. This will go a long way in reducing stress and ensuring you have a fresh and agile mind on Monday morning.
MAP Testing: All students have completed MAP testing and we will send them home with their NWEA MAP Progress Reports this Tuesday (5/28). If you have any questions, or would like help interpreting the scores, please contact the MS Office and schedule an appointment with your child's Math or English teacher.
Arch Day & MS Graduation: The end of the school year is quickly approaching and we will be sharing information early next week about Arch Day and the 8th Grade Graduation Ceremony. For now, please remember that Arch Day will be a half day and school buses will depart at 11:30am.
Have a great weekend!

The 2nd Dalton Soiree
The Student Council continues to work hard preparing for the 2nd Annual Dalton Soiree on Friday, May 31st.
This year's theme is Starstruck. Sophia Seo, our Student Council President says she "...hopes that it gives the middle schoolers an opportunity to relax and build community after they take their finals and finish up their schoolwork at the end of the year". Students are still able to purchase tickets from their student council representatives next week!

2018-19 SDL Evening Showcase
The Self Determined Learning (SDL) program held its first annual Evening Showcase on Tuesday, May 21st. The event was a great opportunity for parents to show their support and see what their students have been up to in SDL class this spring. Students did a great job stepping up to the challenge and represented themselves well through various presentations, exhibits, and TEDx talks.
Thank you, parents, for providing a great authentic audience for our SDL students and for actively discussing and engaging with students about their work! We look forward to seeing you again next year!
