Glenburnie PS Update
Feburary 4-8
The OverDrive SORA Digital Library is now available for use!
Overview
LDSB has entered into a partnership/consortium with Upper Canada DSB, and several schools in HPEDSB. We are sharing a collection of digital materials under the “Eastern Ontario Public School Board” consortium name.
- It is an online collection of audiobooks and e-books.
- The collection is divided into JK-5 (Juvenile), 6-8 (Young Adult) and 9-12 (Adult). As you move up into a higher ‘bracket’, you have access to all books in the younger bracket (but not the older one).
- Books are available in open dyslexic font and different backgrounds (black, white, sepia) are available too.
- Print size can be adjusted for students with visual impairments.
- Google translate compatible.
- Google Read and Write is compatible with e-books.
- Students can highlight, make notes in the book and import this information to a document that assists them when writing reports/essays.
- Students can click on words to get a definition of that word. All of these words can then be added to a ‘vocabulary’ list for the student’s reference.
- If students have a library card, they can connect, through the SORA app, to their local library and search for books in both collections at the same time.
How Do I Gain Access?
Simply look for the SORA icon in the Minds Online Toolbox. You can find the link to Minds Online from our school wesbite home page under Quick Links. Click and log in using your LDSB account login and password. You can also get to the login page with the link below. Global School Play Day
On Feburary 8th, our school will participate in the Global School Play Day! This day will give us an opportunity to acknowledge the great amount of learning that can happen during unstructured play. Unstructured play helps children develop creativity, passions, problem solving, communication and collaborations skills .
Students may bring one item they wish to play with to school on this day to share with others. The only restrictions: they may NOT bring items that require batteries or electricity. No devices! Here are some ideas: board games, dolls, Legos, blocks, trucks, cars, playing cards, empty cardboard boxes, markers, jigsaw puzzles, blankets (for forts), social games (charades, Pictionary, etc.).
