CONSIDER GIVING THE GIFT OF EDUCATION THIS HOLIDAY SEASON
The holidays are here and that means it's a new season of giving. Please, if you can, remember to give to those who are not as fortunate. A college education is one of the greatest gifts anyone could receive.
There are still so many Plano ISD students who desperately need and deserve that gift. Our Year End Appeal has been delivered to your mailbox and the Hendrick Scholarship Foundation graciously asks that you give what you can to help the very deserving students. Our goal for 2017 is $15,000.
Hendrick Presents at the Plano Rotary Club
On October 26, Hendrick was the featured organization at the Plano Rotary Club meeting. Among the topics discussed was the foundation's’ mission and impact on Plano ISD graduates.
HSF Vice President and Rotary Club member Nancy Humphrey highlighted the history of the organization. Executive Director Gregg Pappas thanked the Club for their continued support of the foundation through grants and volunteers for our annual golf tournament.
Board member and Student Success Committee Chair Tom Donaldson spoke to Rotarians about the uniqueness of Hendrick, the support services and scholarships provided to all HSF scholars, in particular academic advising, volunteer coaches, tutoring, a series of life skills workshops, career guidance and referrals to community resources.
The Club also heard from a graduate of the program, Hannah Aziz, who achieved her dream of a Bachelor’s Degree in 2016 from Texas Woman’s University. Hannah witnessed her mother being murdered by her father at 3-years-old, she was left without parents and her grandmother, who was the primary caretaker of the children, died shortly later. This all happened before Hannah turned 10-years-old.
Current student, Jayla Rutledge, who is studying nursing at UT Arlington and is expected to graduate in December 2018, also addressed the Club. She credits her coach with much of her success, keeping her focused and encouraging her to be the best she can be.

Hendrick Student, Juana Corbin, speaks on how Hendrick has impacted her life
I have been shown by many recipients and faculty of the Hendrick Scholarship that education is the key to success. Adversities do not hinder one's ability, but it makes us stronger to never give up on our dreams.”
