Optimist Student of the Month: Macy V.
We have the honor and privilege to partner with Windsor Optimist Club. Each month a Windsor Middle School student is selected as an "Optimist Student of the Month." These students are recognized for exhibiting optimism and being a role model for others. Our Optimist Student for the month of October is Macy!
One of her nominations read, "Macy is passionate, creative, consistently engaged, curious, funny, an incredible leader, and much more. She displays all of this consistently inside and outside of class every single day. She has an empathetic soul who cares for others and is always willing to help out those who need it. Macy’s positive attitude and work ethic are contagious and always make the classroom a better place to be in. I can think of no one more deserving of this award other than Macy."
SRO Student of the Week: Ethan H.
"Ethan is always picking up trash and cleaning up after others. He organizes and pushes in chairs as he is walking throughout my class, he always offers to help."
SRO Student of the Week: Aidan B.
"Aidan displays character, helpfulness and is a great example of someone who cares not about his learning, but classroom environment. He promotes positivity every day in my class which contributes to a wonderful learning environment. Great work!"
Wheel of Windsor Winners
These lucky winners had their names drawn to win FABULOUS prizes at Wizard Way Assembly. One lucky winner won a gift card to Centerra! Congratulations!
A Note From The Health Office
Just a reminder, we need updated immunization records or immunization exemption forms turned in to the health office by October 30! If we don't have one or the other we will have to call home, as the students won't be able to be at school without that documentation.
We will be doing 7th grade hearing and vision screening on Monday Nov 27th from 8:40-9:35am (During 1st period). We will have 4-5 RNs that morning and 11 audiology students to help screen.
Halloween Costumes
Costumes can be worn for the school day and must meet school dress code, be school appropriate, no blood, no gore, and nothing resembling a weapon is allowed. Face paint is welcome, but needs to be kept to a minimum. Listed below are a few helpful reminders as we prepare to celebrate!

What's Happening Around WMS?
Quarter 1 Assembly
During our quarterly Wizard Way Assembly, we had a lot to celebrate! These fine, young people were recognized for consistently exhibiting our Character Counts Pillars of Character: Respect, Trustworthiness, Citzenship, Fairness, Caring, and Responsibility. Congratulations to our Wizards of Character!
RISE Outing
Thank you to Windsor Lake Coffee for hosting our RISE class this week. The kids had a great time applying the skills we practice in the classroom to real world situations within our wonderful community. We were able to work on social skills, road safety, communication skills, math, reading and a little bit (okay a lot) of fun!!!! We already cannot wait for our next outing!
If you own or know someone who owns a local business and would love to have some visitors let me know! This crew is a fun one!
It’s a great day to be a Wizard!!!! Way to go, Mrs. Thomas, Mrs. Morris, Mrs. Trujillo, Mr. Mercer and Ms. Couch!
6th Grade Band & Orchestra

Mr. Swanson and Mr. Beard are great instructors!
Windsor Middle School's BIONIC Club (Believe It Or Not I Care) is selling socks for a cause
When someone in a developing country becomes an amputee – they quickly come to realize they have lost much more than a limb. The loss of a limb is just the first loss in a cycle of loss that often includes their job, social standing, self-worth, family, dignity, and finally their humanity. Let’s break that cycle!
Most of us don’t even think about it. We take thousands of steps every day. It’s just a part of life.
But for millions of amputees throughout the developing world, the possibility of taking a single step is just a dream.
WMS's BIONIC club started the sock campaign to help give amputees around the world a second chance at life by providing them with a leg system that is high-quality and costs less than the cell phone that we carry around in our pockets every day.
Also: For every pack sold, we will receive a pair of socks to donate to people in need within our own community!

We thank you for your support,

Family Connection -Family Table Time
Did you know that teens who eat dinner with their families are less likely to use drugs or alcohol? Family dinner time activities and conversations can establish lifelong healthy habits, rituals, help to stay organized, create memories and traditions. Family dinner time can help promote values, ethics and principles within the family unit which in turn helps teens be healthy members of society.

Safe Schools Month
October is Safe Schools Month. In recognition of this designation, we look to share different aspects of our safety program with you:
Standard Response Protocol
Our district proactively works to prepare our school staff, students, and buildings for a variety of safety scenarios. We utilize the i love u guys Foundation’s Standard Response Protocol. This protocol provides common language and training to school districts across the country, and includes five specific safety actions: hold, secure, lockdown, evacuate, and shelter. We would encourage you to engage your children in conversations about our Standard Response Protocol language, discussing what your student can expect in each scenario and talking through any associated feelings. Community Partners
We value our close partnerships with Windsor Severance Fire Rescue and the police departments at the Town of Severance and Town of Windsor. We regularly work with our local first responders to ensure the readiness of our school personnel and law enforcement for preparation, response, and after action related to preparedness for a variety of safety and security situations. Through a partnership with the Windsor and Severance Police Departments, we have four School Resource Officers (SROs) at our school buildings. Learn More

VOLUNTEER COACHING INFORMATION
There are a few steps to volunteering as a Coach at WMS. The first step is to speak with the Head Coach of the sport you want to participate in. When that coach approves you, he or she will send a note to Mr. Cox, our Athletic Director, informing him of the potential volunteer, and that the coach has met the potential volunteer and has a plan for that volunteer to help our program. The potential volunteer will then need to come see Mr. Cox to get a Volunteer Coaching form. You will need that form in order to complete an application to volunteer on our RAPTOR system. Once you have the form, go to RAPTOR and fill out the volunteer application. When you are approved, you will be in the system and are then able to work with our athletes.
Please call Mr. Cox if you have any questions, or need help working through the process, at (970) 686-8219.
