The SPIRIT of SKS
Saint Kateri School's Weekly Newsletter ~ April 15, 2020
WE ARE ALL IN THIS TOGETHER
Happy Easter! ~ I hope you all were able to enjoy this past Holy Week and had time to celebrate your Easter family traditions and maybe even create some new ones.
As we begin our 5th week away from our school and our teachers and our friends, we continue to be hopeful that we will return to Saint Kateri School this school year. The Governor has set the earliest return date as April 30th, beyond that we are unsure at this time. While we wait for further updates, our teachers are continuing to teach and our students are continuing to learn ~ from their homes.
Our schools were closed on Friday, March 13th and we began our Distance Learning on Monday, March 16th ~ through email and website updates and newsletters. Our teachers were regularly checking in with students and families, to support learning but more importantly to support our families. This has not been an easy time for anyone and we have been asked to do hard things ~ and we are doing amazing things!
- Preschool teachers learned a new platform online. See Saw allows teachers to stay connected with their students and for students to be able to show their learning at home.
- This week our Grade 3-5 teachers and students will begin using Google Classroom as a learning platform.
- All teachers have participated in Zoom Meetings as well as run them with their students.
- Mrs. Viscardi and Mrs. Payne work with teachers to support students that are in need of extra instruction similar to what they do in the classroom.
- Sr. Pat Trovato meets 1:1 with her students through Zoom Meetings ~ with the help of Sr. Pat McDermott.
- Student Support teachers from West Irondequoit and BOCES continue to instruct their students each week.
- Saint Kateri School has been able to help families without electronic devices to borrow from our inventory. We hope to be able to help all of our students to have access to the online learning teachers are providing.
We continue to hold true to our motto of Values Beyond Academics ~ striving to foster a growing faith in God and service to others while holding our educational expectations high. The education of our students is important and preparing them for their next step is crucial for their success. With all the changes and extra demands this time has presented us with, we understand that families are experiencing a wide range of stress and concern. We know that you are having good days and days that are not so good. Please reach out to me if you need support ~ I would be happy to call or meet online with any student or parent that may need some support.
We miss you and we love you! Take care of yourself and each other! Thank you for all you are doing to support your children and their school during this time!
God bless ~
