Smith Family Newsletter

We believe in the power of school and family partnerships.

Message from Ms. Rivera

Welcome to the March edition of our newsletter. I am grateful for this warmer weather and am happy to never experience those freezing days ever again. Please contact the school if your family needs assistance.

I have an update about pictures. Individual spring pictures and group class pictures will be on March 24th. The class picture will be taken outside, and students will take off their masks for the few seconds that the camera flashes. Let your child's teacher know if you would prefer that the mask be kept on. Yearbooks can be purchased at Balfour.com for $25. This year, students will be in alphabetical order by grade instead of by class since we have had so many changes this year.

Finally, the deadline to let us know about a learning environment switch is this Friday, March 5th. You only need to contact us if your child will be changing from online or face-to-face learning.

As always, thank you for your support at home. Please reach out to me if you have any questions or feedback, visit our website, and follow us on Twitter @CedricSmithElem.

Teacher of the Month - Sarah Kennedy

Each month we will be honoring a teacher who has displayed leadership, instructional excellence, and positivity. Our March Teacher of the Month is third grade teacher Sarah Kennedy.

This is Ms. Kennedy's fourth year at Smith, and she is a shining example of the determination and positive attitude that it takes to make a difference in a child's life. Ms. Kennedy puts everything she has into her teaching each day, and she is willing to do whatever it takes to help our kids. She is also helpful to her teammates and is patient and kind to everyone.

Thank you, Ms. Kennedy, for everything you do to help make Smith Elementary a better place each day!

Your Child and Internet Safety

Each year, our students are given Internet Safety lessons, and we are starting to give these lessons more frequently as social media and chat rooms become more accessible on the Web. Please be aware of your child's Internet usage, and talk to them about the dangers of talking to strangers online. Even popular games such as Among Us have chat features where kids can be exposed to anyone. A website that we use is called Common Sense Media, and you will find many helpful resources there.
