This Week In Second Grade

Shape Poems * Equivalent Fractions * Verb Tenses * Plants

We Have Fun In 2C!

We are keeping on our poetry hats this week to write and design shape poems. We’ll also be reading about trees in small groups and working on past, present, and future verb tenses. This is our last week with our literature circle groups. The children reading enjoyed this, and I think they learned many strategies of how to be a good reader. We will continue this group reading in the classroom. In math, we will continue learning about fractions. Listen out for the word equivalent this week! Cooking and baking at home is a great way to practice fractions. The Everyday Math consultant will be teaching a lesson to my class this Monday, and will be giving a parent seminar Monday night. I encourage you to attend and learn about this wonderful program. Plants are still our science focus and we are learning about the plant life cycle and different ways we use plants. I plan to take the children outside to explore the different plants we have on campus, so I’m keeping my fingers crossed for a sunny day or two!

Testing Wednesday * Field Trip Friday

On Wednesday, we will be taking the CPAA test at 9:30 in the computer lab. Please make sure your child gets a good night sleep and has a nutritious breakfast. Reassure your child not to stress about this test and to just try their best.

We will be going on a field trip this Friday. Please send a lunch and drink for your child to enjoy at Forsyth Park after we watch the ballet downtown. Ballet and poetry both need rhythm and are both forms of art. I love when students see connections between two things that seem so different. We'll be sure to point out the early-blooming azaleas in the park.
