NEWS IN GRADE 1
In reading (Wonders) all classrooms review unit 2, learning about the community. We will begin Unit 3 and our big idea is Changes Over Time. We will learn about how we measure time, how plants change as they grow, what a folktale is, how life is different than it was long ago, and how we get our food.
In math we will continue to work on composing and decomposing numbers to 10. We will be developing our subtraction fluency within 10.
We will be making cinnamon ornaments later this month. A form will be coming home looking for volunteers to sign up to help out!
Dear Second Grade Families
Please remember that the weather outside is getting colder. Please ensure that your child is dressed appropriately for outdoor recess. We recommend layers for inside the class as well. We would like to extend our warmest wishes to you and your families during the holiday season. We cannot wait to see what 2020 brings!

3rd Grade News
As we approach the middle of the second term, it is very important that third graders are studying their multiplication facts everyday. Fact knowledge will make future math classes so much easier. Students are also encouraged to use ZEARN and LEXIA at home. These computer programs will help your child to build on their math and reading skills at their individual levels. Thank you for encouraging your students use of these programs.
Please be sure your child has proper outerwear for the winter. Recess is held outdoors when the weather permits. Coats, hats and mittens are recommended.
From the Third Grade Family to yours Happy Holidays!

News from the Music Room
Hello OMP parents and guardians.
The OMP Winter Concert is quickly approaching! The concert will run a bit differently this year. Concerts will not be during the school day.
The concert is Tuesday December 17th at the PHS auditorium.
Grades K-2 (plus drama club) will be from 5:30pm to 6:30pm (arrival time is 5:00).
Grades 3-5 (plus drama club) will be from 7:00pm-8:00pm (arrival time is 6:30).
Please remind your students to use the bathroom before coming to the high school. We will have limited time and space once they arrive. If you are having dinner before coming to the concert, please try to stay away from milk and heavy dairy. Dairy can interfere with proper singing voices.
Students are asked to dress nicely, holiday colors are encouraged. Santa hats, headbands, etc are also welcome (just nothing that blinks, is loud, or is too tall).
Specific dress needs:
Girls: dresses, skirts, pants and a nice top are all great. Dressy is encouraged. Please don’t feel like you need to spend lots of money on something fancy. Nice and simple is just fine. Please NO high heels shoes for the girls. Be sure that dress shoes fit properly, otherwise they could be uncomfortable or unsafe on the chorus risers.
Boys: Nice pants, shirt (without words or logos on it-unless it is a holiday shirt), a holiday tie would be nice, be is not required. Sneakers are fine.
Kindergarten: Please have your child wear a winter hat, gloves/mittens, and a scarf in addition to the above (they work with one of our songs).
Drama Club: Boys: Same as above. Girls (dresses): A simple but fancy dress. (Onesies): Holiday Pajamas (shirt and pants preferred), no slippers. Sneakers or dress shoes are fine.
The concerts are free and open to the public. Feel free to stay for both concerts if you wish.
Happy Holidays from ESL Corner
It’s the season for ACCESS Testing! In the month of December the ESL team will be focusing on preparing our students for the upcoming ACCESS Test. This test will be administered in January. We will be planning exciting activities for the students to get more practice in all areas of language- listening, speaking, reading, and writing.
With our WIDA MODEL benchmark results we were able to meet with each student and identify their language grows and glows (strengths and weaknesses). We will be using this information to ensure that our students get extra practice in their “grow” areas.
December is a fun and exciting month. We are looking forward to the door decorating contest. The ESL class won last year for our door titled “Christmas around the World”. We will need to think of something creative...any ideas are welcome.
As always, please email us with any concerns or question.
