Grade 3 Bere
Second Term Begins!
Your child will also be bringing home some Math and Language assessments that were completed during first term. Please ask your child to share his/her work with you and show you how much he/she has learned. These assessments are for you to keep at home. There is no need to return the rubrics to school.
Math This Month
This month we will focus on the geometry and measurement strands of Mathematics. We will explore geometric properties of polygons, angles, and the relationships between quadrilaterals. We will also measure length, perimeter and area using standard units of measurement. We will track the daily air temperature in degrees Celsius and compare it to benchmark temperatures. "Multiplication Monday" will continue throughout the term so that the students can build and practise these important skills gradually.
The Underground Railroad
Did you know that quilts were an important signal to slaves searching for safe houses on the Underground Railroad? The class is fascinated with the topic of the Underground Railroad. During Black History Month, it is fitting that we explore literature and art that relates to this important time in history and ties into our ongoing study of Early Settlers in Upper Canada.
We will celebrate Valentine's Day in the classroom on Friday, February 12. Students are welcome to bring cards to exchange with their classmates. A list of first names went home in the planner pouch on February 1. If your child is bringing valentines, please be sure that there is one for each student in the class. If you wish to bring a treat to share with the whole class, it is ideal if it is portioned and wrapped so that it be sent home. The students will be able to enjoy some treats at school, but some may need to be saved for later.
