Updates from the Office: Staffing, GE Day, Construction
Happy Summer! I'll be sending some occasional updates throughout the summer to keep families informed with important information. It's been a busy June and start to the summer, but as always I am looking forward to July.
As mentioned in the last communication, we have some staffing changes. I'd like to share a farewell to Ms. Luer, our Spanish teacher. She will not be returning next year. I'll share more information about her replacement once that decision is finalized.
Beginning of school opening events -
As you may have noticed, our school district calendar is a little different this year in that we start school Friday, September 1st. Our staff and PTA have a variety of events/opportunities to take advantage of to make the start of the school year as easy as possible. More details will follow, but please save the following dates:
Wednesday, August 16 - New family orientation (JK families and new SK through 5th grade families are invited) 6:00-7:00pm
We will be sending out an official invite to new families with more detail, but hold the date if you are new to Washington.
Monday, August 28th - Washington Meet & Greet Pool Party @ Hoyt Park 5:00-8:00pm
The Washington PTA has rented out the TOSA Pool at Hoyt Park for a private pool party for Washington students, staff, and their families. In addition, our staff will be available to greet students and their families. Families will also be able to pick up forms and pay fees at Hoyt Park.
Wednesday, August 30th - Open House and Parent Information Night 6:00-7:30pm
The evening will begin with an open house, where families can pick up and drop off forms, pay fees, drop off school supplies and meet the teacher. Immediately following will be break-out sessions in the classrooms where your child’s teacher will present procedures, policies and a curriculum overview.
Friday, September 1st - School Starts
8:20am - Flag raising ceremony - South playground
8:20am - Visit classrooms with students
8:45am - Coffee w/ Principal and PTA
GE Day - Parent Volunteers Needed
Washington is one of the schools elected to be a recipient of GE's Community Service Day on August 2nd.
For 23 years GE employees and volunteers have been dedicating their time to help schools prepare for the next school year by painting, landscaping, setting up classrooms, cleaning computers, organizing, etc., in an annual Community Service Day (CSD). Washington was one of the lucky schools chosen to to have GE's help.
Parents who are interested in volunteering along with our GE volunteers on August 2nd, please complete the Link to volunteer survey. Any volunteers will get a free t-shirt and lunch!
Projects so far include landscaping, painting classrooms, painting lines on blacktop, murals, cleaning, organizing, and much much more!
Thank you in advance for helping to make GE Day a huge success!
Summer Hours and Contact Info
Gabe and Brenda are in and out all summer long and have very sporadic hours. As many of you know, Gabe had her baby on June 10th. She and baby, Trinity Grace Schram, are doing well! Brenda is working summer school, and I am between here, Fisher and conferences/meetings throughout the summer. If you have questions that need to be addressed by the office or me, the best way to reach us is via email.
