This event is one of the BIGGEST fundraisers of the year and we need your help collecting donations! OR volunteering!
Shellaina Goldenberg has been working overtime collecting silent auction donations but we need your help. Do you know any local businesses that would be willing to donate an item, gift certificate, cash ANYTHING for our auction? If everyone spoke to one business and brought in a donation we could make this the most profitable fundraiser of the year.
CALL NICOLE 250-540-7260 or SHELLAINA 250-550-9001 TO DONATE
OR EMAIL president@ssfreestyle.com

LAKE LOUISE North Face Jr. Big Mountain Challenge
HOW DID OUR BIG MOUNTAIN COMPETITION TEAM DO?
Jessica Brown (18 yrs old) from Silver Star Freestyle’s Big Mountain Competition Team takes FIRST place at the North Face Jr. Big Mountain Challenge in Lake Louise, Alberta. Part of the International Free Ski Association’s Canadian tour, this National Event attracted athletes from across North America. Jessica’s ski line was bigger, faster and more technically challenging than any other. She walked away with not only first place and a bag of schwag, but North Face presented her with $1000 towards new gear. As the only female on the team, her male teammates have huge respect for what she does and couldn’t be any prouder of her.
The 15-18 year old boys had two finishers in the pack….Liam Bush (15 yrs) placed 6th and Declan Stevenson (16 yrs) came 11th. Owen Tooke (14 yrs) skied his way into 9th place in the 12-14 age category.
Silver Star Freestyle’s Big Mountain Team is only in its second year of competitions and already their skiers are proving to be quite the group of athletes. Next they are off to the Revelstoke junior Regional on March 25 & 26th.
The IFSA Big Mountain events are comprised of 3 days. Male and Female age categories 8-11yrs, 12-14yrs and 15-18yrs separate the athletes. The terrain is marked from one side of the course to the other and the skier needs to stay within that boundary. The first day the competitors are allowed to inspect the course and ski around the cliffs, jumps and terrain to check it out – but not ski over any features. Day 2 is qualifiers where all competitors ski the course once and are judged on their fluidity, chosen line, speed, technical skill and style. If you fall the judges stop scoring you, if you lose a ski you have 20 seconds to get it back on, and if you go out of the boundary you are disqualified….those are the rules – now imagine the pressure not to fall or lose a ski! From these results the groups are cut in about half for Finals on Day 3. The competition is fierce and exciting….every athlete cheers on the others and the atmosphere is friendly and fun. This sport is attracting some fantastic skiers and inspiring many to go onto the Senior events. Check it out…. https://www.freeskiers.org/
