Message from the Principal
Dear Parents/Guardians,
I am hoping all of you are safe and warm while reading this February newsletter. Thank you for keeping students home and protected during the several days our schools were closed this past week. The weather at the end of January was brutal and it will be good to return to some more normal winter weather this coming month.
The district schools are hosting a second parent-teacher conference this month. A link was sent to all parents which enables choosing a conference date and time. Conferences will be held from 4:30 - 8:30 PM on either Thursday, February 7 or Wednesday, February 13. Each conference with a teacher is 15 minutes long. If you have not signed up for a conference, please do so by using this link: https://www.signupgenius.com/tabs/1357fd602a0cee8c24-igspring
February also has many other events planned for students and parents/guardians. There is a PTC Movie Night, field trips to Metropolis, Officer Friendly visits, Share a Book Day with various community members and the first Grover Night for our 1st graders. We will also have our first event for the 2019-20 school year: kindergarten registration! This will take place on February 20th.
There are many, many things going on this month at Indian Grove. As always, please contact your child's teacher or me if you have any questions, concerns or comments pertaining to your child. In closing, I leave you with this thought:
"People don’t notice whether it’s winter or summer when they’re happy."
- Anton Chekhov
Respectfully yours,
Mrs. Lynn Fisher
Principal

Kindergarten Registration for the 2019/2020 School Year
It is already time to start planning for next school year! Any child who will be five years old on or before September 1, 2019, can attend our full-day kindergarten in August.
Registration and information for Kindergarten will be done on Wednesday, February 20 at Indian Grove. This registration event goes from 4:30 – 8:00 p.m. in our lunchroom. Parents/guardians may come anytime between 4:30 and 8:00 and should plan on being here for about 30-40 minutes.
Prospective kindergarten students DO NOT need to attend this event.
In order to register a child for school, we need a LEGAL (county) birth certificate.
District 26 residents should be receiving more information in the U.S. mail sometime soon. If you have questions, please call our school office.

Snow Removal
In order to help our students get to school safely, we are asking all parents who live along a walking route to school to please make sure your sidewalks are cleared. This way, our students will be walking safely on the sidewalk and not in the street on their way to and from school.

GCSC NEWS
The Grover Community Service Group will be once again leading the school in the Pennies for Patients campaign. This will start on Monday February 4th and run through February 22nd. Boxes will be placed in each student's classroom for all donations. All funds raised will benefit the Luekemia and Lymphoma Society. Please particupate and help us reach our school goal of $3,000.
The GCSG is still collecting pop tops for the Ronald McDonald House. Our goal is to collect at least 1,000,000 pop tops! All pop tops collected are recycled and proceeds will help support families with sick children. We will be collecting these until the end of the school year. Last year, we did good, but this year we want to do even better. Step up and lend a hand. GO GROVERS!!!!

Preschool Screenings Information
RTSD26 will offer preschool screenings to all District 3 and 4 year olds suspected of having a developmental delay. In addition, we will also be screening students to see if they are eligible for the ECDEC preschool program and our Bilingual Spanish Preschool program. To be eligible for these programs, families must meet specific criteria, such as speaking a second language in the home, income level, or other criteria that can be explained to you at the screening.
If you are concerned that your child has a delay in vision, hearing, motor, speech, language, cognition and/or social functioning, call 224- 612-7308 to set up a screening time. All screenings are done by appointment only and take place at Parkview. Screenings are held on Thursdays and are once a month through April.
If you are unsure if your child is developing appropriately, please consult with your child's preschool teacher or pediatrician for advice. The Center for Disease Control offers the following information: http://www.cdc.gov/ncbddd/actearly/milestones/index.html
Your child must be at least 3 years old at the time of screening. Screenings are staffed by educational professionals and therapists who will make recommendations for further action to parents. All screenings are at Indian Grove and by appointment only. Translation services are available. To make an appointment in Spanish, please call Mrs. Perez or Mrs. Santiago at 224-612-7402
SCREENINGS DATES: (2018/2019): 2/14, 3/14 & 4/18
