Announcements and opportunities
Remote Learning Survey: As the Minnesota Department of Education (MDE) works closely with the Minnesota Department of Health to plan for the 2020-21 school year, it would like to hear from families about their experience with remote learning this spring. Provided information will allow MDE to help families balance the responsibilities of work and family, while also supporting student learning. The survey is available here in English, Hmong, Somali, and Spanish. The survey will close on June 30, 2020.
Minnesota Reading Corps: Sunrise River School and the North Branch Area Education Center have open Reading Corps positions and a need for tutors in grades K-3. If you know of someone who might be a great fit, encourage them to contact Minnesota Reading Corps at join@servetogrow.org or 866-859-2825.
Pandemic Electronic Benefit Transfer (P-EBT): If your child was between the ages of 5 and 18 on September 1, 2019 and was eligible for free or reduced-price meals during the 2019-20 school year, you could receive $325 per child in Pandemic EBT (P-EBT) benefits. These benefits can help your family purchase groceries and are available even if your child continued to receive school meals during the distance learning period. This program is a benefit for your child, and applying for P-EBT does not affect enrollment in any other program. This flyer give important information about receiving this benefit.
Make a Plan: The Dept. of Human Services (MDH) is urging all Minnesotans who are responsible for the care of a child to make a plan for alternate short-term care for their children in the event parents or guardians become ill. To support families in this process, MDH has developed Make a Plan, Minnesota. Make a Plan, Minnesota helps guide families through a process to identify possible caregivers, gather vital family and child information, and share their plan with others. Visit the Make a Plan, Minnesota web page to find more information and a fillable form to help gather information.
Free Meals for Kids Mobile App: SummerEatsMN has created a Free Meals for Kids mobile app, in partnership with MDE, to support school nutrition programs for students during COVID-19. The app is powered by GPS and shows locations of schools and other sites that are providing meals and meal packs with days and hours of distribution. It also shows the distance and directions to the nearest site. Listings are updated daily. Click here to learn more.
