A Message from the Superintendent
We eagerly await official notification on the status of Measure J, our school facilities improvement general obligation bond on the November 8, 2022 ballot. The Secretary of State will certify all election results on Friday, December 16, 2022. I will report the official election results in my weekly message in our final Round-Up for 2022, next Sunday.
While unofficial, it appears that our community voted to support Measure J. We are thankful and appreciative that our community has invested in its schools and its children. Only a small percentage of registered voters have school-age children. Supporting the bond is another example of how the community served by Alvord schools values education. The future in Alvord is bright!
SUPPORT OUR SLOW THE SPREAD CAMPAIGN
Riverside County's COVID-19 Community Level has been elevated from Low to Medium this week. According to experts, It's likely to continue to rise during the holiday season. In anticipation of higher COVID-19 rates, we are providing all students and staff with testing kits like we did before the Thanksgiving break. Please test before returning to school on Tuesday, January 3. For details on the campaign and instructions in the event of a positive test, click here.
INTERNATIONAL BACCALAUREATE PROGRAM ALUMNI NIGHT
Graduates of Norte Vista High School's renowned IB Program visited with current and aspiring students of the program this past week. The International Baccalaureate Program is an internationally recognized diploma program, offering rigorous, challenging and advanced academic curriculum, while also developing students into community leaders and global citizens in the 21st century. The types of research, writing, thinking and communication of ideas that IB courses require, reflect college-level expectations. IB helps students get into college, and more importantly, prepares students to be successful in college once they are there.
Throughout their IB experience, students develop approaches to learning skills and the attributes of the IB Learner Profile. Students are able to take responsibility for their own learning and educational progress, encouraged to try different approaches to learning, and understand how knowledge itself is constructed.
See the brief video below for more information about the program. Contact NVHS IB Coordinator Mr. Marshall for more information shawn.marshall@alvordschools.org
