Thomas's Beginnings
Thomas Jefferson was born on April 13,1743. He was born on the Shadwell plantation in Virginia. He was born in to on of the most important planter families in Virginia. He had 4 sisters and 1 brother. When he was young he loved to play in the woods and read. When he was 9 he begin going to a local private school. Then when he learned all he could there he went to college. He went to "William and Mary" which was the 2 oldest college in the colonies at the time. He went there for 3 years the n went on to study law and order. He did 5 course of study on being a lawyer. During this time he met his wife Martha Jefferson.
Thomas's Political Beginnings
Thomas Jefferson started in politics right at the end of the French and Indian War in 1763. He was one of the first supports of the American Revolution. He was elected for the Virginia House of Burgesses in 1768. In 1774 he did he first major work called " A Summary View of the Rights of British America". A year later he attended the second Continental congress. During this the created the Continental Army and but George Washington in command of.
Creating the Declaration of Independence
In June for 1776 Thomas Jefferson and 4 other men were appointed by congress to draft The Declaration of Independence. They then choose Thomas to write the first draft of it. It took him 17 days to complete his draft of the Declaration of Independence. The Declaration then went under several revisions before it was adopted on July 4, 1776.
Thomas as Governer
On June 1, 1779 Thomas Jefferson was elected to be governor of Virginia. Thomas served 2 terms as governor. On June 1 1781, the day after he was done being governor, he was forced to leave his home because of the British calvary. Later on after leaving his home he started to right a book about Virginia and his time there. This book would go on a play apart in the american Civil War.
Thomas as Vice President
In 1797 Thomas Jefferson was elected to be vice president with George Washington. He was then vice president with George Washington though all of George's terms in office.
Post President
On March 4, 1801 Thomas Jefferson returned back to Virginia When he went back to Virginia he founded the University of Virginia. He designed the whole campus himself. Then on March 17, 1825 the university opened its doors for the first time.
Thomas Jefferson's End
Thomas Jefferson died on July 4, 1826 the 50th anniversary of the Deceleration of Independence. He died only a few hours before his close friend John Adams passed away.
