Bernice Young Elementary Newsletter

Summer Edition - Late July 2020

Principal Corner

Hello Yellowjacket Families!

We hope you are doing well and staying safe. As most of you know, new information is being released daily. We have two very important changes that we would like to make you aware of. First, the school start date has been pushed back to August 24th. Second, staff/students are required to wear face coverings when physical distancing of six feet is not possible or practical. We are working hard to plan for the upcoming school year with the latest information. Our priority is to keep students and staff safe. We have safety procedures already in place for the beginning of the year. These procedures can be found in the Reopening of Schools Information.

A survey will be coming to your inbox (through a SMORE newsletter) and be posted on social media in the next few days. This survey will allow you to choose between on-site full-time learning or on-site blended learning. The blended option choices have been determined to help provide structure for our students, teachers, and families. These choices will be Monday/Wednesday/Friday OR Tuesday/Thursday. The survey deadline is August 5.

If you are interested in the Virtual School the deadline to sign up is July 31st.

We will do our best to keep you informed of any changes or updates. Our goal is to be as transparent as we can as we move closer to school starting. Safety for students, staff, and families remains a priority with decisions we make.

Resources in this newsletter could help answer your questions or help you determine what is best for your family in regards to returning to school this August. Please reach out if you have further questions or if you would like to process the school year together. We will be glad to discuss any questions or concerns over the phone.

Administrator Back to School Q & A

Bernice Young Elementary Administrators will hold a Zoom on Thursday evening for parents who have questions about next year. This will be very informal but will give you a chance to ask questions and get some clarity based on the current plans for back-to-school. We may not have all the answers at this time but will do our best to figure them out for you!

The zoom will be Thursday, July 23 at 6:00 pm. Links will be posted to our social media accounts or you can click on the Q & A image. Feel free to send any questions in advance to our fb messenger or email them to younginfo@sdale.org.
