Join us for for these exciting day-long Uncommon Approaches to Cultural Education conference that will bring together teachers, librarians, archivists, school administrators, public broadcasting, and museum professionals to discuss and learn best practices for utilizing cultural organizations as part of curriculum-based learning. National Chemistry Week Poetry Contest
National Chemistry Week (NCW) provides us a chance to participate in the poem contest this year. The detailed information about the contest can be found below and also in the attached flyer.
What to do: Students write and illustrate a poem using NCW theme “solving mysteries through chemistry”. The poems must be no more than 40 words, and the following topics are encouraged to be explored:
· DNA
· Pigments
· Fingerprints
· Invisible Ink
· Art Forgeries
Format: Each poem must be illustrated on an unlined sheet of paper (of any type) not larger than 11” x 14”. The illustration must be created by hand using crayons, watercolors, other types of paint, colored pencils or markers. The text of the poem can be hand written or printed with a computer. Please include an entry form (Attached) for each entry.
When to submit: The deadline for submission is 4:00 pm Friday, October 14th, 2016
How to submit: The digital copy of the poem is accepted and can be sent to syan@binghamton.edu. The original copy can be sent to me at the following address: Yan Sun, Chemistry Department, SUNY Binghamton University, 4400 Vestal Parkway E., Binghamton, NY 13902
Prizes: 1st and 2nd place winners will be selected in each of the following categories:

NorthEast Regional Meeting of the American Chemical Society
The American Chemical Society’s North East Regional Meeting for 2016 will take place in Binghamton, NY from October 5 to 8, 2016. One of the sessions being offered is an Education K1-12 for Science Teachers on Oct 7, 2016. Anyone can register and attend. Registration is at http://.nerm2016.sites.acs.org/ . The fee is $35 and includes the all day session, buffet luncheon and door prizes from Science Vendors. The Workshops are the following:
