The Great American Solar Eclipse
August 21, 2017
Are You Ready?
On August 21, 2017, a total solar eclipse will cross the continental United States from Salem, Oregon to Charleston, South Carolina. The last time a total eclipse crossed the United States from sea to sea was June 8, 1918. The 2017 eclipse in either total or partial phase can be seen by over 500 million people in North and South America, Europe, and Africa. In Paulding County, we will experience a 97% partial eclipse. This means that 97% of the sun will be obscured. It will look like dusk and the temperature will drop approximately 20 degrees as the eclipse cycle begins at 1:05 pm and ends at 4:00 pm. Maximum coverage will be at approximately 2:35 pm. It is truly an historic event and a wonderful opportunity to view one of nature's most stunning phenomena.
