January 6, 2017
We are off to a most wonderful start! It was wonderful to get back to school and see our smiling children. The hugs and chatter about what happened and trips over the holidays has been delightful! Thank you for sharing your children with us!!
As we begin 2017, please remember that safety and attendance are priorities.
Safety: We need everyone to be great team players as we keep everyone safe at all times. Please help by sending notes to teachers to change transportation, drive slowly during arrival and dismissal while staying alert, and by signing in at the kiosk when on campus during the school day. Here at school, we will continue to practice our emergency drills, monitor all concerns and communicate these to you as needed. Please remember that all adults entering the school need their driver's license or passport for entrance.
Attendance: Children are not learning content if not present so we do need your child here each day, all day. Please remember that three unexcused tardies is one unexcused absence. When your child is absent, please send a note on the day of his or her return. If your child goes to the doctor, please get a note as we can only accept ten parent notes. Medical notes are automatically excused. After ten parent notes, absences are unexcused. Thank you for your help with this!
Yes, it would be neat to see a few flakes of snow tomorrow! I know...I am a real southerner who has not experienced the snows up North! However, if I have to be cold, let's have some white flakes and fun for the children. Then it may go away quickly and, hopefully, warm back up. South Carolina is always filled with interesting temperature fluctuations!!!
Stay warm, safe, and...read a great book while enjoying hot chocolate with your child or children!!
Yours truly,
Jan Fickling, Principal of Midway Elementary

Reminder from the Health room
Fifth Grade attends special musical performance at River Bluff High School
On December 13th the fifth grade students attended a special musical performance at River Bluff High School. The Show Choir, String Orchestra, and Wind Ensemble Band performed and presented demonstrations of the instruments.
Lexington School District One supports the arts and desires to provide this special opportunity to help students entering their middle and high school years catch a vision of being a part of the excellent music groups throughout the district.
Ms. Rhyner and Mrs. Rogers presented lessons to help the students prepare for the concert. As a follow-up activity, the students wrote thank you notes to the RBHS performance groups.
Run Hard Coaches Needed
Spring Registration Opens January 16
Run Hard is an eight week after-school running club for 2nd-5th graders that equips students to run a 5K. During the season students train twice a week with a focus on endurance training and the Run Hard Core Values. Registration for the Midway Run Hard team will open on Monday, January 16 and practice will be held on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 2:30 - 3:45 beginning March 7. The Run Hard 5K will be Saturday, May 6. The cost is $90 for the season.
In order to have a team of 40 runners again this season, we need some additional teacher and parent volunteers to help one or two afternoons a week. If you're interested in helping with this great program, please contact Jennifer Barrineau at brianandjenbarrineau@gmail.com. For more information on Run Hard and to register go to www.runhard.org
