Set Sail for New Shopping Adventures and Support Owen Elementary!
Ahoy Owen Families,
Owen PTA’s BIGGEST fundraiser is coming soon! The Spring 2019 Resale!
Saturday, March 2, 2019 from 7:00 am – 11:00 am
with a HALF PRICE SALE (on eligible items) from 11:30 am – 1:30 pm in the Owen Gym.
About the Sale
For the last 14 years, the Owen Elementary School fundraiser has been the fabulous Fall and Spring Resale. Owen PTA organizes these resales each to support our school. The resale have up to 100 sellers who sell gently used, seasonal clothing/coats (sizes 0-20), sports equipment, uniforms, toys, DVDs, strollers, bikes, swimwear, shoes, books, puzzles, baby gear, maternity, formal dresses and more. Sellers keep 70-80% of their profits (depending on volunteer hours) and the remaining 20-30% goes to our school’s PTA. We accept cash, check and credit/debit cards ($2 fee for credit cards). Children are welcome at the sale, but NO strollers are allowed.
Ways YOU can Help!
We ask that EACH Owen Family volunteer for at least a 2-hour shift and shop the sale or future sales may be in jeopardy. The funds raised benefit all of the students at Owen and support all the outstanding family activities and educational opportunities! Without the Spring and Fall Resales, we won't have the funds!
- SELL: We really need some more sellers to make our sale successful. Do you have gently used items your children have outgrown? Register as a seller and pick your volunteer hours beginning Monday, January 28 at 9:00 am at: https://www.myconsignmentmanager.com/owenipsd/.
- VOLUNTEER: This is a MAJOR undertaking and we need ALL HANDS ON DECK to help! Sellers can volunteer on the website above. Non-Sellers can sign up at: https://www.signupgenius.com/go/805044DA8A82FA31-resale3. We have 2-hour shifts on Thurs. (4-8), Fri. (9-5) and Sat. (7-7). As a BONUS, if you volunteer you can shop our pre-sale on Friday, March 1st, from 7 – 9 pm.
- PUBLICIZE: Share information about our sale with your family, friends, co-workers, neighbors, etc. Digital fliers will be available on our Facebook page and on the Seller’s Page of our website (see below). Printed fliers will also be available in the front office or can be sent home with your child via backpack mail by sending a request to owenptaresale@gmail.com. Help us spread the word!
- SHOP (and bring friends): An average sale has over 20,000 high quality, name-brand items available at great prices! It’s the perfect place to buy clothes/coats, shoes, books, toys and more all while benefiting your child’s school.
- DONATE: Do you have big ticket items to donate but don’t want to sell/tag? Contact us for more information about donating large items to the sale (for 100% PTA profit). In addition, we may be collecting any items, including clothing, the Monday following the sale that will be donated. You can make your donations in the Car Rider Drop-off Line. Details coming soon.
For more information check out our website: owenptaresale.wordpress.com; our Facebook Group Page, “Owen Elementary PTA Children’s Resale” or e-mail us at:owenptaresale@gmail.com.

CHARACTER COUNTS! Everywhere and all the time!
Starting with character education and moving to character action is not a year-long journey, it is a life-long journey. We want our passengers to learn about character education, but more importantly we want our passengers to apply these character traits in their daily lives.
Thank you for teaming with us in this journey by looking for your child applying these positive characteristics in their lives outside of school. We'd enjoy hearing from you.

Students Earning a Positive Referral
Congratulations to the following Owl-Standing Owen Owls for earning a Positive Referral since the last newsletter for demonstrating exceptional character. Any staff member may acknowledge a student who exemplifies great character on a regular basis. We encourage you to celebrate this with your child. We recognize each student during morning announcements. He or she will sign our Kids for Character Positive Referral Book and place a personal Owl-Standing Owl of Character on our Kids for Character Tree in the main hallway.
Each quarter students who earn two or more Positive Referrals and have no office behavioral referrals have a special celebration that is planned by our Positive Behavior Intervention and Supports Team (PBIS Team). At the end of the year students earning three or more Positive Referrals will enjoy a Limo ride, lunch, and fun at Commissioner's Park with the principal.

2019 Illinois 5Essentials Survey CLOSES Feb. 15th.
5Essentials Survey
Thank you parents and guardians, our fourth and fifth grade students, and teachers for completing the 5Essentials Survey this year. The responses are analyzed by the University of Chicago and then a summary is provided to the State, each school district and school. An overall rating will be one of the factors included in each school's rating on the annual school report card.
We have 42% of our parents and guardians who have completed the survey for Owen, 92% of our fourth and fifth grade students, and 98% of our certified teachers.
Next week we will determine which classroom earns the pizza party for turning in the most signed It's Easy as 1-2-3 forms. Last year Mrs. Bree's class had 85% of the students turning them in. This year 1B has almost 100%! However, there are three other classrooms close to 100% as well. We will announce the winner or hopefully winners next week.
THANK YOU FOR YOUR INVOLVEMENT IN YOUR CHILD'S EDUCATIONAL EXPERIENCE AT OWEN!

Congratulations to the students of BUS #6 and to Mrs. Pardo and Mrs. Puccini for modelling "CHAMP"ion behavior! The week of February 11th the students will have "free sit" at lunch.
