Harrington Happenings
November 14, 2021
Happy Sunday Harrington Families
I hope everyone has had a nice weekend. I hope everyone thanked a Veteran if the opportunity presented itself. The students were so gracious to me on Wednesday, sharing cards and videos that they created for me, as well as asking me many questions about being a Veteran. I was both very proud and very humbled by their enthusiasm and excitement. For a short week though, it was a busy week for us all. We had our first ALICE Drill last Tuesday. The students and staff did wonderfully. The care and thoughtful discussions that take place before and after our drills enable students to transition very well during these types of drills. With each scenario, teachers guide students every step of the way. They prep and seek out student feedback on the options that were chosen. We will hold two more ALICE Drills this school year, with one of the two including the full evacuation route practice.
As a reminder, this coming Thursday, November 18th is a Half-Day for grades 1-4 Parent/Teacher Conferences. By now, your student's teacher should have been in contact with you to schedule your conference with your choice of either virtual or in-person. Please remember, these conferences are to discuss the successes and possible challenges your student may be having in the classroom. Also, please remember the allotted time of 10 minutes for these conferences. There can be a lot of information presented in that amount of time, please be considerate to your child's classmates allotted time. If more time is needed for questions, your student's teacher will gladly set up a time for a phone call, or follow up email to discuss them.
TEST & STAY CONSENT
At the beginning of the school year, Dr. Lang sent out a link for families to participate in the Test and Stay program for their students. While this is certainly parental/guardian choice as to whether to participate in the program or not which I respect uncondidtionally, I cannot emphasize enough the importance of school attendance. In the event of a positive case in a classroom, those students that are not signed up for the Test and Stay program can be out of school anywhere from 8 to 11 days. As we move deeper into the year, academic requirements and expectations only increase and attendance is truly valuable. If you were on the fence before, give me a call and let's talk about it and why it can be an important decision regarding consent. I've attached the link for those that may want to sign up for the program.

Once again, remember to…"Push through your day, Smile, Be Happy, Stay Positive!"

SCHOOL REMINDERS -
HPTO Meetings: On that first Wednesday of each month we hold our HPTO meetings at 6:30, in person and virtually. Our PTO gives parents and teachers the opportunity to work together to supplement and enrich the educational experience for all. Harrington Elementary is incredibly fortunate to have such a strong, dedicated, motivated, well-functioning PTO. Our HPTO is the teacher's and community's most important ally when it comes to achieving curricular and fundraising goals throughout the year. I know that everyone leads busy lives, as does this amazing PTO board, so, I would ask all of you to try to take some time at the beginning of each month to support our HPTO by attending their meetings either in person or virtually. If you have a Facebook account, join the HPTO page for important news and information of upcoming events and links to the meetings.
Lost and found… Lost and found is getting full. If your child has lost items please encourage them to check the lost and found. It is located outside of the café. On both conference days we will lay out the items in lost and found so families to check to see if any of the items belong to them. After conferences are over we will be donating the items not claimed.
Approaching Cold Weather: As we approach our cold weather season, please make sure students are coming to school with the appropriate clothing. Unless we reach a specific threshold in regards to temperature, the plan will always be to go outside as much as possible for mask breaks and recess.
