Mr. Corso's Message
Positive Raiders: Responsible, Respectful, Hard Working and Kind
November is Bullying Prevention Month at BMMS: We started our Bullying Prevention Month at Black Mountain Middle with two homeroom lessons on Wednesday and Thursday. Wednesday’s lesson included a video that defines bullying and informs students how they can address bullying. Here’s that video... LINK On Thursday, students watched a fascinating video from Burger King (yes Burger King) where they had actors bully another actor in a restaurant and then cooks “bullied” burgers. The result is pretty interesting… LINK
This Week’s Positive Message: to students from Assistant Principal Kelly Stine… “First, I’d like to talk about our safety plan and drill practice. Over the last few months, I have received questions regarding where to go if a drill happens during a break, or at lunch ...I wanted to share that if we have a drill during these times, we would like you to report to the blacktop, and line up with your Homeroom classroom. Your safety is our number one concern, and we wanted to tell you about this important change. Second, November is Bully Awareness Month. As a school, we will be participating in Homeroom discussions, lunch activities, and team building in a whole school effort to improve how we treat each other on campus. The goal is for us to be reflective on the words we use and actions we take with other people. A friend of mine once said, “How do you want people to feel when they leave you? “ My goal is that everyone who interacts with me leaves feeling better than they did when they arrived. I hope you take the time to think about the day to day interactions you have, with teachers, your family members, friends, and people in general. It’s important to think about what you say, but also what other people might be feeling or thinking in those moments. I look forward to a great month with you!”
Positive Supports at BMMS: BMMS has a Positive Supports Team made up of classified staff and teachers. We meet often to create systems that promote positive supports for student engagement and behavior. Here are some supports we offer: Raider Rewards (reward activity after Progress Reports and Report Card), All Star Raiders (this year we have nominated 167 students exemplifying our 4 Core Values and awarded 36 receiptinats), Professional Growth Presentations, PBIS (Positive Behavior Interventions and Supports), RtI, No Place for Hate, and our Home Field Advantage.
Backpacks: Do you know what your student is carrying in their backpack? Have you ever checked? As a school, we are looking at ways to reduce the load in a student’s backpack. I checked my freshman’s backpack and he had 4 old lunches in it, yuck! I would suggest you make sure there all items in their backpack are essential for school.
Book Fair is coming! Volunteers are needed before school, lunch, after school, and after Band concerts from December 6th to December 13th. Volunteers will set up fair, facilitate book sales, stock shelves, ring up purchases, and tear down the fair. Need to be Level I or Level II volunteers. Please click on the link below to sign up. https://signup.com/go/YUsyosu
The First Trimester ends on November 15. Reports cards will be distributed the week after.
Enjoy your 3 day weekend. We appreciate everyone’s support of the $30k in 30 Days campaign. Thank a Vet or more for their Service. I am looking forward to thanking my father, father-in-law and my brother.

$30k in 30 days: We are in the last stretch for our $30k in 30 days! We have raised nearly $23,000 - just $7,000 short of our goal. The campaign wraps up this Sunday, so the time is now - please be a part of helping us get across the finish line by donating in the next 5 days. To donate, go to www.educationfoundationbmms.com . OR - text 30k to 858-609-8666 to get a secure link to donate. Donations are tax deductible and most importantly are spent THIS YEAR to benefit YOUR students. Thank you for your generosity. · Teacher grants that directly impact your students in their classrooms
· Support for clubs and extracurricular activities that excite and encourage our kids.
