Debate Day in AIM
During the last few weeks we have been researching, discussing and thinking about the two sides (North & South) leading up to the Civil War. We understand that while we certainly don't agree with slavery, understanding the WHY is so important. Each student created a fictional facebook account (PowerPoint) based on their research (popular names, types of farms, hobbies, jobs) of that time period. We also studied primary sources to hear in their own words what people thought about slavery. Finally we held our debate... I wish you were there to hear and see how engaged they were. I did include a few of pictures and some video clips. Please note that those who argued for slavery were taking on the arguments from pre-civil war America not their own (I know you understand that but I just don't want to confuse anyone).
In the heat of the moment!
Offering a rebuttal!
Comparing factory life to slavery!
The North held their ground!
The South would not give in!
Again the North refused to accept their answers!
The North had to justify their use of cotton!
Using primary sources to argue their points!
Then the debate got heated!
