ESE Department Newsletter

Kevin's Corner
As you have seen already, the Graduation Rates are steadily improving across our high schools in Palm Beach County. The ESE Department is exceptionally proud of the gains we have achieved. Since the 2011-2012 school year when we had a 25.3% gap to the general ed graduation rate, we have closed that gap to 8% with a 79.2% standard diploma graduation rate for SWD for 2017-2018. This progress is the result of hard work by students, staff, and families from our Pre-K programs to our high schools.
Congratulations PBC ESE and thank you for your dedication to helping students succeed.
Spotlight
The ESE School-Based Enterprise Fair is a showcase for high school students who are developing their business and marketing skills through a school-based enterprise. These programs, from across county high schools, are designed to teach students how to establish and run their own business. The business plan is made by the enrolled students who develop a product and then market & sell their product in order to run a self-sustaining business.
At the SBE Fair on December 13th, approximately 14 of our student business owners from Indian Ridge, Royal Palm School, Jupiter, Palm Beach Central & Boynton Beach high schools came to share their products. Students offered items they have designed or created including jewelry, decorative crafts for the home, stationery, wooden reindeer, cat & dog treats & toys, and beauty products. Funds raised are used to support the ongoing business expenses as well as activities to increase other life and community skills for the student business owners.
Thank you, students, for providing everyone such a great selection of items to fill our gift-giving needs.

When teachers and students return in January, there will be an update to PM/Unify that will include a new feature for students. A Student Portal, in addition to online testing, will now offer an opportunity to view student's test results for both District and State assessments. The purpose of providing test results through the PM/Unify Student Portal is to empower students to own their data and experience a different level of accountability for improving personal outcomes. In a near-future release, students will be able to click on a link to resources (i.e. Khan Academy, etc.) aligned to each State standard. This update will not impact computer-based Diagnostic testing in January. Students will simply select Online Testing when prompted (as shown below).
In preparation of this release, a variety of resources have been prepared to support the release. The resources include a PM/Unify Student Reporting Portal Release Summary, Student Reporting Portal Navigation Quick Doc, and a Student Reporting Portal Navigation Video resource with navigation steps. The resources are hyperlinked below for your convenience. Please share this information with your teachers and other team members as needed.
