Dear English Language Learner Parents,
Aurora Public Schools is currently preparing to invite students to schools for Assessing
Comprehension and Communication in English State-to-State for English Language Learners
(ACCESS) testing. Beginning in January 2021, schools will initiate the assessment for our
multilingual learners. ACCESS is an annual assessment for English language learners for
students in Kindergarten through 12th grade. The purpose of ACCESS is to determine the
English proficiency of students and assess listening, reading, speaking, and writing skills.
The information gained from the ACCESS assessment will support schools and the district to
understand the progress students are making in their English language development and aid in decision-making regarding school and district programming for multilingual learners.
At this time, specific details about how testing will be conducted have not been finalized.
However, additional communication will be made available as guidance is provided. Please
know that the health and safety of our students, teachers, and staff is a top priority.
It is our hope that you have a safe and restful winter break and we look forward to welcoming
you back in the new year.
Respectfully,
Ashlee Saddler
Director, Culturally and Linguistically Diverse Education
