Fulton Focus
For the parents and patrons of the Fulton School District
November 3, 2017
A message from the Superintendent
Dear Parents and Patrons,
The time of year for inclement weather is rapidly approaching. If there is a need to cancel school, we attempt to make the decision in a timely fashion for you to ensure your student(s) is safe for the day. We generally intend to complete a full day; however, if an early cancellation is needed it will be announced as one, two, or three hours. This method of release allows a normal transportation schedule throughout the district.
You will be notified of school cancellations through the news media outlets of KRCG, KOMU and KMIZ. I typically call and leave a message at the local radio station, KFAL. Other communications will be provided through the district web site, email and text messaging system. The automated phone system will not be used during normal school hours, but may be used in the evening and early morning.
Next week, the Transportation Department will be sending home the Transportation Snow Route plan with your student(s). This information will also be posted on the District web site. Please review the information and address any questions with the Transportation Department.
Typically, when school is cancelled due to inclement weather, we expect after school activities to be cancelled. However, there may be mornings when the roads are treacherous, but are safe by noon causing interscholastic competition to continue, especially if the competition involves several school districts.
Inclement weather days are challenging. We consult a variety of sources including local media, the Missouri Department of Transportation and the Callaway County Emergency Management staff. Obviously, our goal is student safety; hence, we always strive to make the best decision for our students!
Thank you for sending great kids to work with!
Sincerely,
Jacque A. Cowherd, Ed.D.
Superintendent
Congratulations!
