2O Class Update

Science
Have you ever learned about Painted Lady butterflies? Last week we released our butterflies. It was a happy and sad time for us. We were sad to let them go but happy to let them fly free in nature. This week we got to observe their chrysalises. First Mrs. Ohl handed out our butterfly chrysalises. It felt like a leaf. It was very crunchy. It was transparent. It was dirty. We could see where the butterfly came out. It had points on the side. It looked like a small banana. That's what we learned about butterfly chrysalises!
Buddy Biographies
"Does this look like me?" He asked in a whispery voice.
This week we wrote Buddy Biographies. First we had to interview our buddy for the buddy biography. A buddy biography is an interview so you can learn more about your buddy. Then we had to write our buddy bios on special paper just for our project! We used transition words and twin sentences to make our writing more interesting. Next we cut out the people and colored them to look like our biddies. Finally we glued our buddy bio onto our buddy's portrait. They turned out great! When you do this project make sure to impress your parents at Open House.
Fundations
Eww! Stop chEWing with your mouth open!
This week in Fundations we learned the /u/ sound like in "chew". Sometimes you write the /u/ sound oo, and ou. These are the sounds the go in the middle of the word or syllable. These are the sounds that go at the end of the word: ue, ew, u, and u-e. There are a bunch of sounds that say /u/ so don't chEW with your mouth open!
Haddonfield
Have you ever learned about the history of Haddonfield? Well if you haven't, we can teach you. This week we took a field trip to Greenfield Hall. We learned about the history of Haddonfield. There were so many cool stuff in the basement. There was an upstairs and a downstairs. There was also a backyard. Next in school we learned about how transportation changed. Back then they had horse carriages, mini cars, trollies, and trains. But now we have cars, trucks, trains, taxis, and buses. We also learned about how communities changed. For example, some places were built different but the same store. Another example is how the trolly trucks got taken down and also the trolley. We hope you learned more about the history of Haddonfield!
Math
Do you like learning new things in math? If you do then don't stop reading. We learned a lot of new things in math this week. One thing we learned was new estimating with money. We estimated with coins to help because we were estimating with bigger numbers. Another thing we learned in math is getting a more precise measurement by measuring to the nearest half inch. The line in between two inches is the half inch. And this is how you write half: 1/2. One a ruler the half inch line is in the middle between two whole inches. We also learned how to use traditional subtraction. It's when you subtract going up and down. If there are more ones on the top there's no need to stop. And if there are more on the floor you have to go next door and get ten more. This week in math was so exciting that we think our heads will...EXPLODE!
Reading
Do you like to read? This week in reading we had to heck in on our reading in 2 different ways. One way we checked in was we had to write a post it with a star for the skill we were good at. Our skills were keeping track of longer books, understanding literary language, and reading more fluently. We had to decide 1 skill we were doing well and 1 skill we wanted to keep working on. The second checking was taking a post it we wrote and wrote a reading response to explain it. Then we practiced to get better at reading. Because you know the saying, practice makes perfect. I bet each time we have a read to self each of us gets better at reading. And practicing reading is fun!
We also figured out how to understand the main idea in Scholastic News. Its as pretty hard because each article was about a different thing but they were all about the same topic. I know we all have great reading skills now!
