Message from the Superintendent
Scarborough Employees are Rock Stars
This week I would like to recognize the talents that come from our employees who have played an incredible role in making sure the learning continues with our students. We are forever grateful for the contribution and dedication of our Scarborough employees.
Notably, our teachers are teaching in the most challenging environment they could have imagined. I continue to hear the many stories of the amazing innovation and practices that have surfaced this school year by members of our families and at large our community members.
I appreciate our parents and community members with their resilience and patience during these unprecedented times. Your continued support knowing the ingenuity of all our employees has allowed us to explore existing resources and tools in new ways, and develop classroom practices that are new, and will continue to provide benefits as time goes on.
Without question we will continue to find hurdles as they present themselves during these times. Your support and encouragement to our employees has meant a lot and we appreciate you being their biggest cheerleader!
Sincerely,
Sanford Prince
News from the Board of Education
Introducing the Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Committee
The board is proud to announce that the Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Committee (DEI committee) has been approved, the members selected and climate survey work is underway. The Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Committee, in collaboration with the Mid Atlantic Equity Consortium (MAEC), will promote the goal of diversity, equity and inclusion for all individuals in our school district regardless of their identity (ie race, gender, age, sexual orientation, gender identity, religion, disability, or socioeconomic status). Using this data, the committee will make recommendations to the board outlining next steps and they will monitor the progress of the action plan over time.
The board is grateful to those who applied to be part of the DEI committee. The thoughtful applications we received show great promise for the work to be done. Be on the lookout for updates from the DEI committee as they start their important work to create a welcoming and safe environment for all Scarborough students. Please reach out to the board with any questions that you may have at boe@scarboroughschools.org.
