The Waldron Weekly ‘22-'23
volume 1
A Note from the Principal's Desk
Dear Anasazi Families,
Welcome to the 2022-2023 school year. It is my great honor to serve the Anasazi Learning Community. I would like to start by saying thank you! As I begin my fifth year at Anasazi, I am eager and excited to start this new school year. I look forward to the coming weeks and months as we continue to develop our collaborative relationship in moving Anasazi to even greater success.
On 7/28/22, Scottsdale Communications shared updates in a SUSD welcome back letter (attached below). In the letter a lot of information was shared including the following:
Gate to gate: On the first day of school next week, pre-kindergarten, kindergarten and first grade parents may walk with their students to their classrooms. These parents will be required to present identification and sign in, so patience is appreciated. We know security measures can be inconvenient, but there is no greater priority. All other students who do not ride the bus must be dropped off at the gate in the morning and picked up at the gate in the afternoon in order to manage the volume of parents on our campuses.
With this information SUSD schools have each made changes to how the first day of school will look on each of our elementary campuses. A change from what I previously shared is that at this time for SUSD schools - ONLY Pre-K, Kinder and 1st grade parents will be allowed to sign in and walk their child to the playground and classroom for the first day of school.
Pre-K, Kinder and 1st grade parents will need to line up at the designated tables on the West side of the school, just South of the front office and flagpole. We will collecting IDs, checking guardianship and having you sign in like you would in the office. *If you do not have a government issued I.D., even if we know you, you will not be allowed to enter the campus. Once approved you will be able to walk your child to the playground and wait with them as you wait for the teacher to meet the class. You are able to follow the class to the classroom where you will say your goodbyes outside of the classroom. We will then have you join our PTO event in the cafeteria or you can choose to collect your ID and exit campus out the Pre-K gate. Those choosing to attend the PTO event will collect their I.D. after and exit through the front office.
Drop off and pick-up routine reminders:
- Walkers/parkers need to meet their students by the playground gate and NOT by the car drive-thru pickup spots.
- If in the drive through right lane, you must remain in your vehicle at all times. You can't park and leave the car, get out to help your child or retrieve something from the trunk. This is for safety purposes. Staff is stationed all around to help. Have backpacks, water bottles and other items ready to go. Please continue to pull forward as you drop off and pick up to help with the movement of the line.
- Parking can be found on the street or in parking spots not assigned to staff.
- The gates close at 8:40 and class begins at 8:45. If you arrive and the gates are closed, you will need to park and sign your child in the front office.
- All parkers and walkers need to use the crosswalk that is painted in front of the front office.
- SLOW DOWN and adhere to the school zone speed please.
I will be sending weekly newsletters to families. Even if you do not read them, please do not unsubscribe from SUSD emails. In the case of an emergency, email blasts are used to send important information. Also, please remember that Peachjar emails are digital flyers sent from Anasazi and SUSD. Previous years' newsletters can be found here.
Here's to a great 2022-2023 school year!
Serving your children,
Ms. Jennifer Waldron
Principal

Wednesday, August 3rd - 1st Day of School ***Changes***
Although Anasazi has a strict "secure campus policy" (meaning visitors must enter campus only through the front office and sign in with proper I.D. before entering campus), per SUSD's Communication on 7/28, we will allow ONLY Pre-K, Kinder and 1st grade parents on campus in the morning of the first day of school.
We will then have you join our PTO Breakfast in the cafeteria or you can choose to collect your ID and exit campus out the Pre-K gate. Those choosing to attend the PTO breakfast will collect their I.D. and exit through the front office.
Please make sure students can carry supplies on their own or they are dropped off at Open House/Meet the Teacher on Monday.
Back to School Coffee - Sign in in the front office and join us in the cafeteria where PTO will be hosting a Back to School Coffee (see flyer below). This is for new and returning parents. Everyone is welcome! This is a great opportunity to meet Anasazi families and to get involved at Anasazi. Hope to see you there!
Thursday, August 4th
At Scottsdale Unified School District, the safety of students and staff is a top priority. All of
our campuses are secure facilities and implement a gate-to-gate philosophy. This
includes, among other things, following visitor identification procedures, closely
monitoring all access points to the campus, requiring all visitors to show photo ID, etc.
Under the gate to gate concept, Anasazi will remain closed until 8:20. At that time,
staff will open the gates and welcome students ONLY onto the school grounds where they will be supervised.
Please see details in the Anasazi Family Handbook attached in this newsletter below for more details.

IB Corner
Welcome to our 2022-23 school year! We are excited to have many new families join our learning community.
Anasazi Elementary School is an International Baccalaureate (IB) Primary Years Programme (PYP) candidate school. This means that we are working towards our full verification. After three years of hard work, IB World Organization will be visiting us in November for our official verification visit. If all goes well, we will become an authorized IB World school.
This year students will continue to be fully immersed in the PYP class experience and will be completing several inquiry based units of study. During Curriculum Night, you are invited to attend an IB PYP information session, which will outline this program in more detail. We hope to see you there!

A Note from our IB PYP Coordinator
Sara Armstrong began working at Anasazi Elementary School in the fall of 2020. She is an experienced IB educator and accreditation coordinator. Ms. Armstrong is originally from Michigan but lived in Sweden for 14 years with her Swedish husband and daughter. During that time, she worked at an IB accredited international school where she taught in the PYP and with MYP learning support. She also served as the school’s Council of International Schools accreditation coordinator.
If you have any questions about the IB PYP please do not hesitate to contact her at sarmstrong@susd.org.
