What is going on?
Math: We will continue our fractions unit. Students will explain that the more fractional parts used to make a whole, the smaller the part; and the fewer the fractional parts, the larger the part. The students will partition objects into equal parts and name the parts (halves, fourths, and eighths) using words. Students will use concrete models to count fractional parts beyond one whole using words and recognize how many parts it takes to equal one whole. Midweek we will introduce personal financial where students will consider the benefits of saving to purchase something desired. Students will be able to explain to explain the difference between a deposit and a withdrawal.
Reading: Next week we will begin our last PBL project for the year. Students will use persuasive messages using media literacy techniques to promote awareness throughout the school to conduct a fund drive that will support the Texas Baptist Children’s home.
We will have guest speakers from A Plus Federal Credit Union to come and teach our kids about financial literacy.
We will also have a famous author visit in the library!
Social Studies: Students will understand the role of producers and consumers in the production of goods and services. We will explain how work provides an income, and how people have a choice in what they can do with their income. This unit will tie in with our last project based learning assignment.
PBL: In the fall, our first PBL unit was on Round Rock landmarks. One of our landmarks of study was the Texas Baptist Children’s Home. For our last PBL unit this year, our focus will be on how we can help Round Rock children in need. One of TBCH’s biggest needs is food for the summer. They receive a lot of donations around the holidays, but their supplies decrease as summertime rolls around. Our students will work on budgets, fundraising, and learning the importance of “giving without receiving”, as they raise money to purchase food for the Texas Baptist Children’s Home.
Sight Words: carry, round, fat, run, hear, third, morning, yellow
Please continue to work with your child to read, write, and spell these words with consistency.
I am really proud of Aditya and Parker! They participated in the 20 for 20 Reading Challenge in March! Way to represent our class! Good Job!
