Spirit Days on THURSDAY's! Wear your Green and Yellow!
NEW! Character Development and Mental Health Support
HMS has welcomed Miss Thompson to our staff in the recent weeks! Miss Thompson will be implementing the CharacterStrong curriculum, Social-Emotional Development Lessons, etc. on a rotation within our Advisory classes, and in addition, will be on site Monday and Wednesday from 1:30-3:30pm for students that might need a soft place to land, a person to talk with or a friendly staff to connect with. We are very grateful to have her join us and are excited to see how this impacts our students! Thank you Miss Thompson!
Research supports importance of mindfulness for all adults, students and staff alike. It's imperative we teach our students how to exercise mindfulness, contemplation and analysis as it relates to their emotions and actions. Mr. Blackburn has taken action and implements a "Mindful Minute" within his Science classes. Students engage in reflection as a group after the minute, as they feel comfortable. Way to go Mr. Blackburn!

Oregon Battle of the Books
Hear ye, hear ye! calling all valiant readers who seek a literary quest! The first middle school OBOB (Oregon Battle of the Books) meeting will be Wednesday at Harney County Library 3:30 to 5pm. If students need a ride, a parent/guardian can call Ms. Lisa (Lisa Moody, HCL's children's services librarian and coordinator of HC OBOB teams) at (541) 589-1824. Reading OBOB books exposes kids to a wider variety of cool books, many of which are nominated by students themselves, and practice matching wits against each other about the stories and later jousting in a tournament with other school teams.
