PANTHER PROWL
CIMARRON MIDDLE SCHOOL NOV/DEC 2018
PRINCIPAL'S MESSAGE
Dear Cimarron Families,
It’s mid-November already? It must be because the leaves are turning; the chill of fall is in the air; we gained an hour, and we even saw a little snow this week. Hopefully, the fall semester has settled into a productive and positive routine for your family.
We completed our family conferences in October and thank each family who was able to attend. Your young scholars see the importance you place on their education through your support and communication regarding their learning at Cimarron. Your continued effort shows that you understand how important their education is, and your time spent also helps them view learning as a priority as they become increasingly more responsible for their education. Our young scholars are maturing into young men and young women.
As this will be our final newsletter for 2018, we will be closed from November 19 - 23 for Thanksgiving break (yes, we will be closed for the entire week of Thanksgiving!) and will close for Winter Break December 24 - January 4 and have a Professional in-service Day January 7. School resumes January 8, 2019. We look forward to continuing to work with you to provide the best educational experience at Cimarron Middle School.
On behalf of our educators, we hope you have a great Thanksgiving and happy holiday season with your family and friends. I am very thankful for the opportunity to lead a student-centered staff, to work with supportive families, and with your incredibly talented young scholars within our strong community.
Thankful to be a Panther,
Gabe Schmidt
Principal
END OF SEMESTER DETAILS
The end of the fall semester is fast approaching and now is the time to check your Portal and prepare. In order to avoid having five or more tests, projects, presentations, or other types of final task for the semester on any one day, we will follow the schedule of events below for the last week of the semester.
If you are new to Cimarron, one of the great experiences is our annual Dodgeball Extravaganza. I am certain this is something your student and a group of friends will want to participate in the last week of the semester as well. We will begin sharing details of sign-up after Thanksgiving.

PARENT PORTAL FAQ
"How do I add a contact to pick up my student if I’m unavailable or can’t be reached?” or
“One of my student’s emergency contacts got a new phone. How do I get the number changed in your system?”
Both of these are easily addressed using your Parent Portal. On the left-hand side, choose the option for ‘Demographics,’ use the plus sign at the bottom, add or edit the information for the contact, and submit. This needs to be done for each student in your household, then our registrar will make the necessary adjustments. If possible, having at least two contacts is helpful in the event of illness or emergency, and keeping your contact information current throughout the year is very important.
PERSONAL DEVICES
In remaining consistent with our middle school practice, personal devices will be allowed prior to the first school bell at 7:40 and after the last bell at 2:40.
We recognize that personal devices are part of the everyday world we live in as well as our future, and know the amazing capability that today’s technology brings to our life. We are seeking to increase classroom engagement and reduce outside distractions, and we appreciate your support in this transition. Should a need arise for an urgent message to your child, we will be happy to help with that communication through our office at 405.340.2935.
