Welcome Back to School!
Breakfast: The Key to Growing Healthy
Sleep and Health
Now that school is back in session, it is more important than ever to get back into a healthy sleep routine. Getting the right amount of sleep can help students to focus, increase concentration, and improve overall academic performance. For children ages 6-12, aim for 9-12 hours of sleep per night.
Here are some tips on how to overhaul your summer lack of sleep schedule
Set a regular bedtime and rise time, even on the weekends
Implement a “media curfew”-turn off all electronics before bedtime
Dim the lights! Even artificial lights or lights from technology can throw off your sleep
Back to school is the perfect time to make sure you’re fueling your body the MyPlate way. Try to eat from the five food groups for every meal.
Fruits-Focus on whole fruits
Vegetables-Vary your veggies
Proteins-Vary your protein routine
Grains-Make half your grains whole
Dairy-Move to low-fat or fat free milk and yogurt
