Dear Parents-
One question we often hear from parents is, how do we help our child steer clear of toxic friends? Adolescence is a time when kids are looking to belong and sometimes they make poor choices. As parents, it is our responsibility to help guide them in their peer choices. Screaming, you may never talk to or hang out with her again will rarely work. But there are some things you can do to help the situation.
There are some great suggestions in this article titled, Does Your Child Have Toxic Friends? How to Deal with the Wrong Crowd. The author makes some suggestions, including:
Not repeating criticisms of his friends
Realizing that going out with them at night is not a right, but a privilege
Making clear statements about your expectations
Managing issues when your child is hanging out with someone who may be doing drugs
The article is worth the read and it gives some in-depth tips on managing some of these challenges. Being a parent today is tough! But there are plenty of resources out there to help you.
Enjoy your weekend!

D303 Volunteers
Volunteers play an important part in our school community. Whether you help in a classroom, the office, with after school activities, or in another capacity, we appreciate you giving your time and talent to Wredling Middle School.
For the safety and security of our students, staff members, and other visitors, District 303 is now asking that anyone who regularly volunteers in our school or chaperones an overnight school trip follow a volunteer protocol. The protocol includes signing a volunteer liability form and completing a background check, including fingerprinting, through the Kane County Regional Office of Education.
The Regional Office of Education is located at 28 N. First Street in Geneva. Appointments can only be made online at www.kaneroe.org. To be fingerprinted and processed as a volunteer for District 303, the fee is $40. Checks may be made payable to the ROE.
Thank you for helping us keep our schools safe and your support of Wredling Middle School!

We Want Your Feedback
District 303 participates in the annual Illinois 5Essentials Survey that collects feedback from our students, teachers, and parents. Your participation in the parent portion of the survey will enable you to share your thoughts on important elements of school effectiveness. All responses are confidential and will never be connected to you or your child.
The Parent Survey is currently open and will remain so through February 14, 2020.
To take the survey, please visit https://survey.5-essentials.org/Illinois/ and select the
appropriate survey. Make sure you enter Kane County in the box for county even if
your home or your child’s school is in DuPage County. This will allow you to correctly
select your child’s school.
