Gators of the Week - Work hard. Get smart. Do good.

Gators of the Week: JV and Varsity FB Shine this Week

Work hard. Congratulations Varsity and JV Football who defeated Chapin this week. Coming off of their first loss of the season, River Bluff JV defeated Chapin at home on Thursday and the Varsity hit the road for the game at Chapin and came away with an impressive 45-28 victory. The win improves the Gators mark to 7-1 on the year.

Gators of the Week:

Get smart: Our students have a chance this week to learn from our Counseling and Advisement team in Junior 101.

Wednesday, October 23rd at 6:00pm in the RBHS PAC.

We will be going over important dates, graduation requirements, college admissions requirements, scholarships to prepare for, dual enrollment opportunities, and reminders on selecting courses for your senior year. This meeting will cover information all juniors and their parents should know going into their IGP (Individual Graduation Plan) meetings which will start next month.

We encourage students and parents to attend together so everyone can hear the same information at the same time.

If you will be attending and require a language interpreter, contact the Counseling & Advisement Office as soon as possible so we can make arrangements.

We look forward to seeing you Wednesday. Plan to arrive between 5:30-6 to be able to pick up a copy of your transcript from your counselor.

Gators of the Week: RBHS Students Serve EL Education at National Conference

Do good. RBHS was honored to have 18 students serve as EL Education Conference Student Ambassadors at the 2019 National Conference held this past week in Atlanta GA. Two students Emerson Fite and Jenaiah Callaham served as the conference MCs. They helped usher the 1500 plus educators into the conference, serve at the Better World Day booth, set up exhibits, speak on panels and led a leadership panel for students of color. What a tremendous contribution they made to this event.

Orchestra Students Give Back

The Presbyterian House of Lexington invited RB orchestra students to play for a dinner event that was held earlier this month for their residents. We had 13 RB orchestra students there to perform (Piper Phipps (10), Brianna Talton (9), Leiney Grace Bryant (10), Karina Kewlani (10), Zulal Cakir (9), Alaina Gindlesperger (11), Emma Beck (12), Gavin Turner (11), Grace Zhou (11), Rachel Loging (10), Tripp Modelewski (12), Jane Taylor (9), & Sara Smith (9)). Mrs. Jo Hanna, orchestra teacher from Meadow Glen MS, was also there to play along with the students. The residents and staff all thoroughly enjoyed it and asked the students to come back and play soon. They did have one special song request for the student's next visit... The Tiger Rag from Clemson. This was a fantastic volunteer musical opportunity for our orchestra students. They are looking forward to playing there again in the near future!

College Application Day

Tuesday, Oct. 22nd, 8:30am-2:15pm

RBHS Learning Commons

Seniors,

If you haven't already reserved your spot for College Application Day be sure to do that by clicking here.

There will be several admissions reps here that day to help you with any application for any college. Make sure you take advantage of the experts we'll have on hand to help you with questions you have on your applications!

Some colleges will be waiving application fees but not all; you should be prepared to pay your application fee in case your college is not one waiving the application fee. If you have received a fee waiver to take the SAT or ACT you may be able to use an application fee waiver if the school will allow. See the list at the end of this email of the schools we are already expecting to waive fees during our College Application Day this year.

It's a great idea to go ahead and look over, or start, any applications you will be submitting in case there are things you need your parent/guardian to help answer. I've attached a college application worksheet of things you'll want to know, or know how to find out, since they are asked on most applications. Even if you are not able to start each application you're planning to submit you should look over this information to best prepare yourself.

If your application requires an essay or personal statement, you should have at least a draft of that written before you come. It is best if you have it completed and ready to upload but the day of the event is not the time to start writing your essays. I hope you have taken advantage of the free RB Writing Center tutors who have been reading and editing college essays this month!

If you have not activated your Parchment account you should do that before Tuesday so you can send your transcript for each college you are applying. You have received emails from Parchment with a link to quickly take you through the process so check your email to complete that.

We are looking forward to celebrating your application submissions with you! If you have any questions, contact your school counselor.

Signing Out Procedures

A reminder to parents regarding signing students out during the school day. Someone from the student's sign out sheet must come in and show ID to dismiss a child. We do not accept phone calls or emails for dismissal. You can come in on Monday to sign your child out during the week but only up until Friday of the same week. Also, if you are dismissing your child during ILT, then it is helpful to have made arrangements with the student ahead of time. We appreciate your help to assist in making this process efficient.
