Message from the Principal
Happy Wednesday, BIS families,
Thank you so much for helping us celebrate our amazing staff at BIS last week. We are very grateful for the support of our educators, staff, and families in Biddeford.
"Year of The Tiger: BIS Art Walk"
BIS has had a tradition of holding a biennial art show in our building, filling the gap year between district-wide art shows. For the past two years, this hasn't been possible. This year we decided to find a way to show our students' artwork without having a large group gathering indoors. During the month of May, we're holding an art walk. All BIS students have their artwork on display in the windows of businesses on Main Street. Each window is labeled with teacher names and a description of the art assignment. We hope families will find a time to take a walk and enjoy the show!
Artwork is hung in the windows of the following businesses:
Engine
NYCE nail salon
Spike dog grooming
Joe Bornstein
City Hall
Heart of Biddeford
Furman, Deptula, Gregory
Angus King
Oak Point

BIS Makes an Impact
The BIS Civil Rights Team recently held a fundraiser to help those impacted by the invasion of Ukraine. The idea came about at one of the team's meetings where students brought up the topic of the war. One student said that it was “too bad we can’t do anything since we’re just kids.” The advisors then talked about what could be done to help show students that no matter their age, they can still make an impact!
Students that were able to were asked to donate $1. The donations are going to Sunflower of Peace in Cambridge, Massachusetts. It is a non-profit organization to support the people of Ukraine affected by the Russian military invasion. They are providing medical and humanitarian aid that will be used by paramedics and doctors in the affected areas. They are also acquiring and distributing first-aid backpacks, medicine, medical instruments, and other means of survival that are saving hundreds of lives! Thank you to the BIS community of staff and students who helped raise over $300! We are grateful that BIS stands with Ukraine!
Summer Programming
Current 3rd grade students: The BLAST LearningWorks Program is partnering with JumpStart through the Biddeford School Department to bring you an amazing summer program! “BLAST with JumpStart Interventions” is a program that teaches the whole child by engaging them in hands-on STEM activities, enrichment opportunities such as music, art and physical education, and clubs that focus on nature, cooking, science and more. In addition, pull out interventions in both Literacy and Math will offer opportunities for students just below grade level to improve upon these skills.
