IMPACT Referral of the Week
We processed over 150 IMPACT referrals in the first week of school. Remember our parents, staff, students, and community members can give IMPACT referrals and we will work hard to deliver them for you.
To: Mr. Epps
From: Erin Bowley
Message: He is always keeping the school spirit high and he makes me want to come to school. It makes me smile and laugh every time I hear the music playing from his speaker or see him in his outfits. The blue suit was actually my favorite haha. Thank you for all you do.
KSHSAA Rule 52 Reminder
At all events, our goal is to provide a positive experience for our athletes and coaches. We want to cheer them on, provide encouragement and support them whether they win or lose. PHS Pride has been a goal this year, and our students have risen to the occasion, they show up and cheer each other on. I am so proud that our student section is growing into a fun and positive environment for our fans and athletes.
Below is the link to Rule 52 from KSHSAA - I encourage you to review these rules with your family. As we approach fall activies season, you will see more leadership from our students in the area of sportsmanship, prior to each game our athletes will provide these reminders to fans to help promote a positive environment.
Dress Code Reminders
We just want to take a moment to remind everyone of the dress code outlined in our student/family handbook. Students are expected to follow the dress code listed below, if a student is struggling to adhere to the dress code we meet individually with the student to address the problem.
Students are required to wear footwear.
All clothing must cover from armpit to armpit and from mid-thigh to mid-thigh at a fingertip length (front and back of clothing). Leggings may also be worn under clothing that does not meet the fingertip length rule.
Students may wear jeans and pants that are distressed, but all exposed skin (holes) must be below the fingertip line.
All shirts must have two straps and cover undergarments. Students will not be allowed to wear clothing that reveals undergarments of any kind.
Students will not be allowed to wear clothing that is designed primarily to be worn as undergarments. This includes tank tops, muscle shirts, or any shirt that has large armholes, which expose the chest or stomach of the student.
Students will not be allowed to wear hats and/or head coverings of any kind in the school building during regular school hours. The exception is on Hat Day, once a month.
All organizations reserve the right to regulate the appearance of their members provided this meets the administrative approval.
Students are prohibited from wearing sunglasses in school unless for medical reasons verified by a physician’s note. Prescription eyewear with tinted lenses that adjust to the light level of the room is acceptable.
No shirts or apparel expressing sexual innuendos, rude statements, or promoting the usage of drugs, tobacco, or alcohol are to be worn to school or at school-related events. Additionally, clothing cannot be adorned with lettering, patches, or drawings that are offensive or are against the student's standards of excellence.
No blankets or pillows are allowed in the classrooms.

SENIOR WINDOWS
There are some seniors that prefer to decorate their own windows and others whose parents do the decorating for them. We love to see those baby pictures! All we ask is that the display and pictures are school appropriate.
Academic Watch replaces OTI
The Academic Watch System was established to provide a process for intervention when a student begins to struggle in a class. The goal of the system is to connect students to the resources they need in order to be successful.
Each teacher has a policy for grading in their classroom, each of these policies explains how much assignments are worth, the procedures they use for grading, and their policy regarding late work. The staff handbook requires that teachers update grades by the time they leave each Friday, in order to make sure their grades in PowerSchool are reflective of student performance.
The first academic watch list will be published on Monday, September 11 for all students.
Each Monday at 10:00 am, Mr. Nolan compiles a list of students whose grades have fallen below a 60% and creates their Academic Watch slips. Academic Watch lists are shared with the staff.
Monday afternoons, Mrs. Conley confers with students and parents regarding their Academic Probation status.
Staff members who sponsor extracurricular activities or events can check the shared Academic Watch lists for updates on student progress/plans.
Academic Watch Status - Students in the first three weeks of failing a class are assigned WIN time with the teacher whose course they are failing or to a structured study hall. These students may also be assigned by Mrs. Conley to after-school tutoring/work time with a teacher or staff member who can provide support in the content area. Students who follow their academic watch plan are eligible to attend practices and participate in events. If a student fails to follow their plan or make progress after three weeks, they move to academic probation status.
Academic Probation Status - Students who have continued to fail a class for longer than three weeks are moved to academic probation. Once a student achieves academic probation status, a meeting is scheduled with the student, parent(s), high school principal, counselor, teachers, and coaches/sponsors (if needed) in order to create a plan to help the student to become successful. Students are ineligible to attend practices and participate in events until the probation meeting is held, a plan is created and the student is following the plan.
