Falco Newsletter June 14th-18th
2021 Newsletter for Five Oaks and Rachel Carson MS
A LETTER FROM THE PRINCIPAL
Welcome to the last week of school!
What a ride we have been on this year! I am so proud of all of our students and staff for their incredible work this year and for finishing strong! I hope this summer will be relaxing and you will all have a chance to recharge to start strong in the fall! This will be the last newsletter for this school year. We will be sending periodic updates over the summer, so please remember to follow us on social media and check the website for updates!
A few reminders before we say be well for the summer:
A few students have reported their CDL friends want to come to the building this week. Unfortunately that is not possible due to cohorting and safety procedures. CDL students that show up at school during school hours will be sent home.
Students who are leaving BSD at the end of this school year will need to return their chromebooks after school June 18 or anytime Monday the 21st, All other students should keep their chromebooks over the summer!
Grades will be posted after the 21st on Parentvue. Log in to your Parentvue account and click on report card to see it.
This summer and fall will bring big changes to Five Oaks. We will be saying farewell to the Rachel Cason program and 19 staff members due to a variety of factors including the new boundaries, Common Middle School Experience, professional opportunities, and personal needs. This week will be a time when we can celebrate the accomplishments of the past year and share excitement about the adventures awaiting all of us over the summer and next school year. Thank you, families, for being on this journey with us and for supporting us all along the way! We celebrate you this week also!
Have a safe and healthy summer! Please look for updates periodically throughout the summer!

FRESHMAN VOLLEYBALL
Hello, my name is Janelle Brandt and I am the Varsity Volleyball Coach at Westview High School. This is my fifth-year coaching at Westview. In both the 2017 & 2019 seasons the Westview Varsity team made the State Play-offs and had the winningest record in program history last season finishing 3rd in the Metro League (9-4) overall. I am really looking forward to building upon the foundation that has been set over the last few seasons and continuing to grow a competitive and successful volleyball program at WHS. I am very excited about the future of Westview volleyball and the continuous support from the student body, staff, and within the Westview community. Our coaching staff strives for success at each level (Varsity, JV, & JV2). We will continuously work hard to make the entire WHS volleyball program strong, competitive, and a positive experience for every player. 2021 Volleyball Pre-Season Info: Summer: June/July/August- Open Gyms, Lifting & Conditioning Youth VB Camp: Grades 5th - 8th, August 9th-11th at WHS, 9am-11:30am High School VB Camp: August 9th-11th, Grades 9th - 11th at WHS, 5pm-8pm High School Try-outs: Daily Doubles Aug. 16th – 18th at WHS, times TBA *Team Practices start on August 19th after try-outs are concluded and are held every day through the end of August until school starts* In-Season Practices: Every Monday, Wednesday, & Friday after school, times TBA Games: Tuesdays & Thursdays starting on August 31st – End of October. You can obtain the sports registration forms online at the WHS website. https://westview.beaverton.k12.or.us/athletics/athleticregistration I am very excited for the upcoming 2021-2022 high school season. I believe this will be another successful year for the Westview Volleyball Program and I can’t wait to get started. I hope your daughter is interested in trying out for volleyball in the fall and being a part of our program. I look forward to working with her this summer at open gyms/workouts. Unfortunately, volleyball is a cut sport and we cannot guarantee that everyone that tries out will make a team. The more work you put in over the summer months, the better prepared you will be for camp and tryouts in August. Please feel free to contact me if you have any questions. Thank you! PANDEMIC ELECTRONIC BENEFITS TRANSFER (P-EBT)
Q.What is P-EBT?
A. The Families First Coronavirus Response Act of 2020 provided additional funding to families whose children qualified for free or reduced-price meals last school year (2019-2020). Money was offered to replace meals that school children would have received at school if school buildings were open. Funds were loaded onto Oregon Trail Cards and sent through the mail or were loaded electronically onto existing Oregon Trail Cards for families already receiving SNAP or TANF benefits.
Q. What’s happening now?
A. Recently, Oregon has applied for more funding. If approved, funds will be available to cover school days from October 2020 through June 2021.
Q. Do I have to apply to get P-EBT?
A. Maybe. Read the next few questions.
Q. My children qualify for benefits under SNAP, TANF, Foster, Migrant, or Homeless programs. Do I need to apply?
A. No. Families receiving benefits under any of the above programs will automatically receive P-EBT funds.
Q. We submitted a Confidential Household Application for Free/Reduced-Price meals during the 2020-2021 school year and the application was approved. Do I need to apply?
A. No. If your family is already approved, you will receive P-EBT funds.
Q. My children attend a Community Eligibility Provision (CEP) school, where all students receive free meals. Do I need to apply?
A. No. All active students at CEP schools will receive P-EBT funds.
Q. Which schools are Community Eligibility Provision (CEP) schools?
A. Here is a list of CEP schools. If your child attends one of these schools, you will receive P-EBT funds. Aloha Huber Park K-8 Barnes Elementary Beaver Acres Elementary Chehalem Elementary Fir Grove Elementary Greenway Elementary Hazeldale Elementary Kinnaman Elementary McKay Elementary McKinley Elementary Merlo Community School Vose Elementary William Walker Elementary
Q. I applied for Meal Benefits and my application was denied, then our household income decreased. Can I re-apply?
A. Yes. Please submit a 2020-2021 Confidential Household Application for Free & Reduced-Price Meals. The fastest and safest way to apply is online through www.schoolcafe.com. If you are unable to apply online, please pick up a paper application at any meal serving site or request an application from the Meal Benefits office. You can email us at NS-MealBenefits@beaverton.k12.or.us or call (503)356-3957.
Q. My Meal Benefits application was denied, then I received a letter saying my student qualified for free meals under the Oregon Expanded Income Guidelines. Will we receive P-EBT money?
A. No. Meal Benefits are funded through the federal government while EIG is an Oregon-funded program. Please refer to your Expanded Income Guidelines (EIG) letter, which states that “Qualifying for Oregon EIG does not qualify your household for other programs or discounts.”
Q. I have not applied for Meal Benefits for the 2020-2021 school year because all students are receiving free meals. Do I need to apply?
A. If you hope to receive P-EBT, yes. Pandemic-EBT is money, which is different from the food supplied by the Beaverton School District. You can email us at NSMealBenefits@beaverton.k12.or.us or call (503)356-3957.
Q. I think we applied for Meal Benefits but I’m not sure. What do I do?
A. Check your www.schoolcafe.com account or contact the Meal Benefits office. Email us at NSMealBenefits@beaverton.k12.or.us or call (503)356-3957.
Q. How will I know if my family qualifies for Meal Benefits after I apply?
A. You will receive an approval or denial letter via US Mail from the Meal Benefits office within 10 business days of your application being processed.
Q. We moved this school year. How will the state of Oregon know where to send my P-EBT card?
To update your address, go to ParentVue (https://parentvue.beaverton.k12.or.us/PXP2_Login_Parent.aspx?regenerateSessionId=TrueParentV ue) or contact your child’s school office. If you have children at multiple schools, you need to contact each school separately.
Q. I heard my child was eligible for P-EBT benefits last spring, but the child’s other parent got the card.
A. The guardian on record with the school on the date of issuance received the benefit. Be sure your child’s school records are up to date. If you have children at multiple schools, you need to contact each school separately.
Q. When will we get P-EBT funds?
A. Oregon has applied for the funds; the request has not yet been approved by the US Department of Agriculture. After funding is approved, the Oregon Department of Human Services (DHS) will release more information, including expected dates for distribution of funds.
Q. My children are doing FLEX online. Can we get P-EBT funds?
A. Yes, if you qualify for free and reduced meal benefits. Please submit a 2020-2021 Confidential Household Application for Free & Reduced-Price Meals. The fastest and safest way to apply is online through www.schoolcafe.com. If you are unable to apply online, please pick up a paper application at your child’s school or request an application from the Meal Benefits office. You can email us at NS-MealBenefits@beaverton.k12.or.us or call (503)356-3957.
Q. Does P-EBT cover the whole 2020-2021 school year?
A. We do not have complete information yet. More details will be released to families as soon as BSD receives that information. If you have further questions, contact Meal Benefits at (503)356-3957 or send questions to NS-MealBenefits@beaverton.k12.or.us
