November 14th, 2014 Newsletter
Intec Communications, LLC
Chris's Corner
Well, they’re here…the Holiday’s. I love this time of year, even with the challenges that come with it. When we go outside, and you can see the air we breathe, we know it’s here. When you walk into Wal-Mart, Christmas songs are playing and decorations are up, and already on sale. When you wake up November 27th and watch my (currently 7-2) Detroit Lions win another Thanksgiving Day game as usual (humor is needed, right?), you can feel the Holiday season is in full swing. When the kids put their wish list under the magnet on the Fridge, that’s when it really hits home.
A holiday note to all of the techs: All of us in the Southlake office want all of you to know how much we appreciate your hard work. What you are doing is making us the best fulfillment contractor in the country. Many of our communications are with management. This is to you.
When the roads are slick and the air is cold, protect yourself. Your families rely on you, even more at this time of year. We rely on you. Each of the Owners, Corporate staff, Directors, Managers, Supervisors, and Administrative staff all relies on, respects, and supports you. It’s a large responsibility each of you carries. When you work, use your protective gear; make it home each day after working hard, and smart. We know all of our technicians need to be IT professionals, Customer Care experts, Electricians, and Security/HVAC experts, in addition to being the best Cable TV Installers in the business! Thank you.
All technicians, please read the cable math problem below, follow the link and answer it. Just for attempting you will be entered to win $100 gift card that will come with payroll 11/29. Deadline to enter is Thursday 11/20, I will have a drawing Friday 11/21 a minimum of 1 technician will win. The winner(s) will have special recognition in next month’s newsletter.
Extra Credit ($), and very special recognition. We as individuals and a company are judged on every single job with the following KPI metrics: SOI, MTF, HIC, FTSRT, VOC, ETA, 48 HR Call Back. Please answer what each means, what the responsibility of the tech is for each, and what level of compliance is required.
Thanksgiving chuckle:
Thank you…stuffing, for always being delicious, even though you’re cooked inside a turkeys butt! -“Thank you Notes” by Jimmy Fallon.

Intec Communications, LLC is proud to announce Delonte Whittaker Tech Number 9728 in the Houston Security Department as November 2014 Employee of the month.

November Safety Article: What to do in a Fire Emergency
What to do in a Fire Emergency
Winter is here and it is time to light up the fire places and make some hot cocoa. We all know from experience that fire is dangerous and we need to be careful when dealing with it.
At Intec we want all of our employees to be prepared for a fire emergency whether in your home, at the office, or on the job.
Hopefully the tools provided below will equip you with the know how to react if a fire emergency situation arises.
If the Fire Alarms or Smoke Detectors go off - R.A.C.E
R: Remove anyone from immediate danger
A: Activate the building fire alarm system and call 911
C: Confine the fire by closing all windows and doors
E: Evacuate, leave the building
Only Extinguish the fire, if it can be done safely!
How to Survive a Building Fire
Crawl If There's Smoke
Feel Doors Before Opening
Go To The Nearest Exit
Always Use An Exit Stair, Not An Elevator
Close Doors
Use a fire extinguisher if the fire is very small or to clear a path to escape
If you are on fire - Stop, Drop and Roll
If You Get Trapped
- Close the door
- Seal cracks
- Open the windows if safe
- Signal for help and phone 911
- Don't jump; the fire department will reach you
Fire Extinguishers Safety:
According to OSHA, the most common emergency small businesses must plan for is a fire. Fire extinguishers can be invaluable tools to help fight smaller fires in the workplace or to protect evacuation routes in the event of a larger one.
Make sure you educate yourself on where the fire extinguisher is in your home, office or vehicle.
A simple fire extinguisher training technique to use with employees is the PASS method:
- Pull the pin on the extinguisher.
- Aim the hose nozzle low toward the base of the fire.
- Squeeze the handle to release the extinguishing agent.
- Sweep the nozzle from side to side at the base of the flames until extinguished.
But knowing how to operate the extinguisher is not the end of training. The following protocol should also be used:
- If appropriate, sound the fire alarm or call the fire department immediately.
- Before approaching the fire, determine an evacuation route safe of flames, excessive heat and smoke. Do not allow this evacuation route to become blocked.
- Use the PASS technique for discharging an extinguisher and back away from the area if the fire flares up again.
- If the extinguisher is empty and the fire is not out, evacuate immediately.
- If the fire grows beyond what can be safely handled, evacuate immediately.
If any of the following conditions are present, workers should follow evacuation procedures immediately and should not attempt to fight the fire with an extinguisher:
The fire is too large. The fire involves flammable solvents, is partially hidden behind a wall or ceiling, cannot be reached from a standing position, or covers more than 60 square feet in area.
The air is unsafe to breathe. Levels of smoke make the fire impossible to fight without some form of respiratory protection.
The environment is too hot or smoky. Radiated heat is easily felt, making it hard to approach a fire within adequate range of using the extinguisher (about 10-15 feet). It is necessary to crawl on the floor to avoid heat or smoke. Visibility is poor.
Evacuation paths are impaired. The fire is not contained and heat, smoke or flames block potential evacuation routes.
Remember fire extinguishers are only meant to handle only small fires. If a fire becomes too large or the environment becomes too dangerous, employees should just R.A.C.E.!
