The Luce CAPT Needs your HELP!
The Luce Community needs your help! Our goal this year is to bring back the fun for our students. We are looking for several volunteers to help organize, plan, and coordinate events during the school day and outside of school. Without volunteers, we will not be able to offer the wide array of programs and events that make our community special. Below is a link to a Sign-up Genius that has the positions in which we need volunteers. There is a brief description of each item, along with the number of people required to plan the event. In some cases, additional volunteers will be needed on the day of the event, and another call for volunteers will be announced closer to the event. If you have any questions, please email lucecapt@gmail.com

Although September is almost over, there's still time to celebrate Emergency Preparedness Month. It is so important to be prepared for an emergency before an emergency happens. Emergencies can be power outages, fires, snowstorms, heat waves, etc. Check out this easy checklist to make a Go-Bag to have in your house.

Parking Lot Safety
Please remember that the parking lot is for drop off's only. Cars are not permitted to park and sit idle in the drop-off lane for any reason. We have vans that can stop and drop off students, but that is the only exception.
If you need to come into the school, please park your car in a visitors parking space. Please make sure to drive your car up as far as possible and do not stop short by the cafeteria side so that we can get as many cars in the queue and off the street. Staff on duty are outside to direct traffic in the parking lot.
Finally, please make sure to drive at the designated speed limit or no more than 5 miles per hour while in the Luce parking lot. Students, staff, and families walk across the lot at varying times.
Picture Day, September 24
Picture Day is Friday, September 24. Please make sure to mark this on your calendar. Students will take their pictures outside and will be allowed to take their masks off as it will be for a few minutes. If there is inclement weather, pictures will be inside, and students will need to wear their masks.

If you haven't already, please fill out a Device Agreement for each student with a school-issued device. This link will provide you with 3 documents; Canton Public School's School-Issued Device Procedures and Guidelines, Canton Public School's School-Issued Device Agreement, and Optional Repair and Loss Accidental Coverage Plan. Once the device agreement is signed, you will be emailed the link to MySchoolBucks to pay for the fee for the optional coverage plan if you choose to opt-in.
The district has hotspot devices available to any student in need of internet support at home in order to engage in school work. You can fill out this form.
You can reach out to Julie Shore, Director of Technology and Digital Learning at shorej@cantonma.org with any questions.
Room Parents
We are currently looking for volunteers to act as Room Parents for each classroom. Most years every classroom at the Luce has designated room parents arranged through and supervised by CAPT. Communication with the teacher will be necessary in determining specific responsibilities for individual classrooms. Traditionally, responsibilities have included assisting the classroom teacher in planning and coordinating special classroom events & celebrations, and communicating with parents about needed supplies. Additionally, room parents also communicate with families to disseminate CAPT, Luce School Council and other Canton Public School information. Room parents may also work with families to obtain needed volunteers for school and CAPT events. Individual teachers determine the amount of involvement Room Parents have in each classroom.
If you would like to be considered for this position, please complete the information below and return the form to school with your child, or you may email the information below to the Luce CAPT (lucecapt@gmail.com). Room parents will be chosen by lottery and parents will be notified of the assignments. The deadline to fill out the form is Monday, September 20.

Star Assessment
Benchmark Assessments
We will be using the STAR 360 Benchmark Assessments this year as our universal screener. This assessment is designed to help us identify students who may need additional support and/or intervention in reading and math. Students will be assessed three times this year: Fall, Winter and Spring. The first assessment window for Grades 1-5 is from September 20-30. Kindergarteners will be screened later in the year. Students will need to bring their school issued ipad or chromebook to school on days that they are testing. Parents should expect an email from their teacher with more specifics on the dates for their class.
Teachers will also be using the STAR Curriculum-Based Measures to monitor progress for any students who are below the benchmark.
Parent reports will be coming home in October to help parents understand the assessment results. We will also be offering some virtual information sessions to share additional information with parents and guardians.
More information is available on the Renaissance parent page: Parent Resources
