Why Trampolines could be dangerous
It could KILL you. (no pressure!) By: Chris D and Sean C
Trampoline risks + rewards!
Risks:
Thousands of people are injured on trampolines each year, most of them being house trampolines.
Rewards:
Having fun, impressing people with tricks.
Children can get hurt when they:
Land wrong while jumping.
Common injuries include:
- Broken bones (Sometimes surgery is needed.)
- Concussions and other head injuries
- Sprains/strains
- Bruises, scrapes, and cuts
- Head and neck injuries (which can lead to permanent paralysis or death)
- How injuries occur
If you have a trampoline at home, AAP says these things:
- Adult supervision at all times
- Only one jumper on the trampoline at a time
- No somersaults performed
- Adequate protective padding on the trampoline that is in good condition and appropriately placed
- Check all equipment often
- When damaged, protective padding, the net enclosure, and any other parts should be repaired or replaced
Christopher's opinion
My opinion is...
I think that they are safe WITH proper safety precautions! Because http://www.healthychildren.org/ says: Adult supervision at all times
- Only one jumper on the trampoline at a time
- No somersaults performed
- Adequate protective padding on the trampoline that is in good condition and appropriately placed
- Check all equipment often
- When damaged, protective padding, the net enclosure, and any other parts should be repaired or replaced
Sean's opinion
I think that despite the risks, that overall it IS worth it to jump on trampolines, as trampolines are fun to jump on, and in my opinion the rewards greatly outweigh the risks.
