Discipleship Digest
A message from Steve Pable, Director of Adult Discipleship Formation Catholic Parishes of Neenah & Menasha. Learn more about Steve's role here.
“…the water I shall give will become in him a spring of water welling up to eternal life.”
I attended high school at St. Lawrence Seminary. It sits on a picturesque hill in the village of Mount Calvary. At the bottom of the hill is a free-flowing Artesian well. This providential water has provided refreshment and recreation for generations of young men, feeding a stream that winds its way through the countryside.
I think of that well, endlessly bubbling and gushing away, as I consider the words of Jesus to the Samaritan woman. The water of our baptism cleanses and heals us, but it does so much more; it joins us to Jesus in His mission to bring life to others! The “living water” He gives restores those around us. If an obscure spring in Fond du Lac County can water trees and crops and livestock for so many decades, imagine what the life of Christ can do in you and through you! Like the woman in the Gospel, the story of your encounter with Jesus will resonate for countless years to come.
