Small Description: Family fun is a priority in Forest City and the Forest City Parks & Recreation Department takes great pride in offering an abundance of parks with playground equipment and other amenities for playtime and relaxation!

* The Aquatic Center closes at 3:00 pm on Wednesdays for home swim meets.

* For inclement weather, mechanical breakdown, low participation, schedule changes, water and air temperatures below 70 degrees, and home swim meets – signs will be posted on the Aquatic Center door.

Bear Creek Golf Course

Small Description: Forest City’s Bear Creek is 18 scenic holes of memorable golf. The front 9 (also known as ’The Cub’) is challenging and enjoyable, yet plays slightly easier than the back 9 (known as ‘The Grizzly’). You’ve never seen a more diverse group of holes on one golf course. Set your tee time today to play Forest City’s Bear Creek Golf Course. Bear Creek is a public, 18-hole, par 71 golf course located in Forest City, Iowa. Call us at 641-585-1353 to reserve a tee time.

Pilot Knob State Park

Small Description: The park has excellent trails for hikers and horseback riders. In winter, a warming house with electricity and heat provides comfort for ice skaters, snowmobilers, cross-country skiers and ice fishermen.The Pilot Knob Recreation Area just north of Pilot Knob State Park is available for public hunting, hiking, snowmobiling and other activities.There are 60 campsites (48 with electrical hookups), modern showers, restroom facilities and a trailer dump station. A playground is located near the campground. Advance campsite reservations can be booked through the park reservation system. Two open picnic shelters can be reserved online through the park reservation system.

Historical Sights

Mansion Museum

Small Description: The Mansion Museum was built in 1899 for banker Charley Thompson and his young family. Across the street, Thompson later commissioned the building of the Summit Hotel, which today houses City Hall. In 1945, the Mansion was converted into a hotel and in 1977, was acquired and restored by the Winnebago Historical Society. Today the Mansion is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.

Hours of Business:

The museum is open from 1 pm to 4 pm on Sundays (May until October).

Admission Prices:

General admission: $5 Ages 12 and younger are admitted FREE. Groups of 10 or more people are $4/person.

Heritage Park

Small Description: Heritage Park of North Iowa is a 91-acre site located on the South edge of Forest City, Iowa. The Park is dedicated to the preservation of America's rural heritage. Heritage Park of North Iowa was formed in the fall of 1999 by the Winnebago Historical Society, Inc. and includes the combining of several North Iowa organization efforts to preserve the history of rural America.

Winnebago County Veterans Memorial

Small Description: The Winnebago County Veterans Memorial includes about 1,800 names of veterans from the county who served in wars. Of these, 500 were listed for free and include those killed in action, prisoners of war, Purple Heart recipients, and veterans of the Civil War and Spanish-American War. To construct the black granite monument, $131,000 was raised in six months in donations by veterans and veterans' families.
