Believe In Brighton

June 1st is "Believe In Brighton" day throughout Brighton Area Schools. Everyone is encouraged to wear a "Believe In Brighton" shirt or Brighton spirit wear to show our collective support to our Main Street businesses that are dealing with the construction that is impacting their livelihood. Many of these businesses do so much for our schools, sports teams and communities. It is time for us to give back. All proceeds for sales of Believe In Brighton merchandise goes back to marketing efforts for Downtown Brighton to support all the small businesses. Another way to show our support is to continue to go downtown & support all of Main Street. Order your Believe In Brighton tee or sweatshirt here: https://www.ivoryvines.com/collections/believe-in-brighton Deadline to order has been extended to May 24th.

FROM THE PRINCIPAL

Happy Friday Hawkins Families,

Besides the excitement of the fire trucks, it was a great week. The students are still working hard as teachers wrap things up for the year. Some highlights of my week were the surprise retirement party thrown by the parents and students of Mrs. Newman’s class. What a great show of appreciation for a truly amazing teacher and a wonderful person. We had a Huddle today which is a chance to get to be with other teachers and students, and we incorporated an assembly with it. Thanks to Scholastic, Dav Pilkey Philanthropy and Jeri Kay Thomas from 2 Dandelions Bookshop for helping us to make this happen. All students received a free book from the Dav Pilkey Philanthropy! We had a great time!

A group of our 4th grade leaders came to me with a proposal to interact with Junior Kindergarten and Kindergarten at recess. A group of 32 4th graders did that and were absolutely amazing. They led games, played with the students and made connections. I can’t tell you how proud I was of all of them. I am looking forward to a weekend on the water with my wife and daughters, it looks like a gorgeous weekend. Finally, I want to say thank you to all of our military personnel. Your sacrifices allow me to be the principal of this amazing school, enjoy life with my family, and live out my dreams. Please take a moment to thank all of our military and take a moment to appreciate what they have done. Have a great weekend!

Hawkins G.I.F.F.T Giving Immediately For Families Today - Summer Break

Hawkins G.I.F.F.T: Giving Immediately For Families Today

This school year we have provided 16 boxes so far to families who could benefit from some pantry items. We can’t tell you enough how wonderful this feels to help ensure some of our families have food in their homes. Before our year comes to an end, we would like to hold one more food box pick up. To ensure this process goes smoothly we are asking that you fill out the referral form below by June 5th, so that we have the week to stock the boxes and have them ready for pick up the last week of school (12th-14th). There will be a small questionnaire to fill out. This is for us to help with your needs the best we can and will not be shared with anybody outside the G.I.F.F.T. program

If this is a service your family could benefit from please fill out this referral form

If you are having trouble accessing this form please contact Rachael Fox at Foxra@brightonk12.com or Nicole Lira at Liran@brightonk12.com, or if you have any further questions about the service we are here to help.

** Please be sure when filling out this form that you include an email address. This is how you will be contacted with instructions to pick up your box.

*This is not an income based program and is available to all Hawkins families in need.

Counselor Corner

Counselor Corner!

I am so excited to continue working with your students this year to help facilitate and promote growth and learning! I am providing classroom lessons, small group activities, and individual support this school year.

As a reminder, your school counselor is here to support children in all areas of mental wellness that impacts their success in the classroom. We work with individuals as needs arise. If your child is struggling at school, we will work together with the classroom teacher to determine whether or not school-based services would be beneficial. We may also be able to offer resources or contacts if your family believes that outside support will best meet your child's or families needs.

The Elementary Counselor Team also has the BAS Elementary Counseling website for ideas and resources to be used at home! Please feel free to contact me with any questions or concerns that you may have, and I will do my best to support your child.

Please state your child's name, teacher, date of absence and reason for the absence (type of illness, doctor appointment, vacation etc). If your child has been diagnosed with a specific ailment (COVID19, strep throat, pink eye, influenza, chicken pox) please state that in the voicemail message. If your child has not been diagnosed with a specific ailment but is having specific symptoms please let us know the symptoms your child is experiencing. Hawkins appreciates your help!

Build a Habit of Good Attendance Early!

School success goes hand in hand with good attendance! Encouraging regular school attendance is one of the most powerful ways you can prepare your child for success both in school and in life. When you make school attendance a priority, you can help your child get better grades, develop healthy life habits, and have a better chance of graduating from high school. Starting in kindergarten, too many absences can cause children to fall behind in school. Students can still fall behind if they miss just a day or two days every few weeks. Attending school regularly helps children feel better about school...and themselves. We understand that there are circumstances requiring students to miss school due to illnesses or for appointments. When this is the case, please provide us with medical notes from the doctor.

Additional resources and information can be found on the BAS Wellness & Mental Health website.
