Bite Size Behavior Tips from our Behavior Interventionist, Tracy Klare
Monday, January 20th we celebrated a great man who was taken from us much too soon. Dr. King knew how to reach the heart and soul of people and knew how to never give up. What a great role model to share with our children. Here are some ways to teach your kids about who Rev. King was and what he stood for.
Here are five ways you can help even the youngest member of your family understand the importance of his life:
1. Read a book: Reading stories to your child can be a great way for them to learn about King’s life. Children’s books, like My Brother Martin by Christine King Farris.
2. Discuss hopes and dreams: Drawing inspiration from King’s “I Have a Dream” speech, ask your children what their dreams are. What inspires them? Talk about ways that your family can make the world a better place, just like King did. You can also write them down and hang the paper on your fridge (or elsewhere in your home) to serve as a source of inspiration throughout the year.
3. Volunteer: Children learn through example, so donating your time and demonstrating the importance of helping others will establish a lifetime of giving back for your kids. Go to NationalService.gov to locate an age-appropriate volunteer opportunity near you.

Joke of the week:
Q- What did the stamp say to the envelope on Valentine’s Day?
A- I’m stuck on you!
Math Tip:
Practice telling time with your student using an analog clock. Change the settings on phones and tablets to take away the digital display. Try name activities that take place in the a.m. and p.m.
Reading/ Writing Tip:
Fluency and expression matter when reading! Take turns reading a piece of text with expression and feeling. Use exclamation points, question marks, commas and periods to help guide your expression.
Attendance Matters! Please make every effort to have your child(ren) at school when they are healthy!
