Fun With Firsties
May 16, 2016
Language Arts-Unit 8 is underway in More Adventures of the Superkids. With this new unit comes a new list of memory words to learn! We will have our spelling test on Friday. This week we will read the stories, The Lesson and That Was Yesterday. As we read we will work on strengthening our comprehension skills through answering questions as we read.
Math-We will continue to work through Topic 14 in our math curriculum. Throughout this topic we will continue to learn how to read and interpret data from a variety of graphs, including bar graphs, tally mark charts, and picture graphs.
Notes To The Fabulous Folks
- This week is Arts Week! The Art Show is on display in the Gym. For more detailed information, please click on the link below.
Thursday-Journal-This week, in our Superkids story, That Was Yesterday, Frits and Alf have a disagreement. They are both very mad. Have you ever been mad? Write about a time when you were mad. Tell what happened to make you mad, tell why you were mad, and be sure to tell what you did to stop feeling mad! Of course, please illustrate your writing!
Faith in First
Our religion lessons this week will focus on the sacrament of Baptism. We will identify Baptism as the sacrament with which the Church welcomes new members. We will share ways in which we can act as welcoming people in our everyday lives.
Recycle And Read
This Friday, May 13 through May 19, Hodgins Library will sponsor the 8th Annual Recyle & Read Event, and everyone is invited to participate. What is it, you might ask? Simply put, our MJS community has been dropping off their gently used books during the school year. Our Library Committee sorts through all titles - infant through adult - displaying them on tables in the library during Recycle and Read. Parents, students, faculty and staff can stop by and pick up books to take home, free of charge.
The library is still taking gently used books for Recycle and Read. So, if you have a shelf of books you would like to part with and pass along to other eager readers, bring them to the library this week. For your convenience, MJS Girl Scouts will have a book curbside collection on Euclid Avenue on Tuesday May 10 and Wednesday May 11, from 7:40-8:00 a.m.
