Database Spotlight

NoveList has been helping readers find their next favorite book for more than 25 years! Using this unique database is like having your own personal librarian at home, helping you to choose books based on your individual reading tastes. It began with a common book lover's problem; the world of publishing is simply too large for any one person to remember all the great titles available. So founder Duncan Smith decided to create a "secret weapon" for keeping track of recommended titles. In 1994, the first version of NoveList was sold to Downers' Grove Public Library in Illinois, and the rest is history! NoveList has been helping readers, librarians, and educators discover new and exciting titles ever since. NoveList does this by examining the many different aspects of a book that may catch your attention, called “story elements,” such as appeal terms (like mood, writing style, settings), plot themes, and genres. They then tag each book with appropriate story elements, making it easy to see if a book is right for you, and to search for similar titles and authors as well. To access NoveList, go to the Research Databases page on our website, and click the KYVL icon. Once you have signed in with your library account number and password, you will be taken to KYVL's main page. From there, click on Databases in the orange menu bar at the top of the page, and then NoveList. Then, it's time to dive in and find the next books for your keeper shelf!
