We are in our last few months of school and several classrooms will be taking field trips and having classroom activities. This is a reminder that all adults that want to participate in these fun activities are required to be an Approved Shelby County School volunteer. If you need an application please let your teacher know so that there is plenty of time to get you approved. Forms filled out less than 48 hours prior to a school field trip or activity may not be approved in time. If you have questions about the approval process you can contact Beth Cathcart, Southside FRC at: beth.cathcart@shelby.kyschools.us or you can call 502-633-4460.
Primary Talent Pool Info
Attention Parents/Guardians of Kindergarten, First, and Second Graders,
Welcome back from Spring Break!!:) We hope you had a great two weeks with your family!!:) As we enter the Spring season, it’s time to refer Kindergarten through Second Grade students for the Primary Talent Pool.
What is Primary Talent Pool?
Primary Talent Pool is a group of primary students in Kindergarten through Third Grade informally selected as having characteristics and behaviors of high potential learners in the areas of academics, leadership, art, music, drama, and/or creativity. The purpose of the Primary Talent Pool is to provide early enrichment for students whose talents need to be nurtured in order to fully develop. The referred student is further diagnosed using a variety of informal measures to determine differentiated service delivery needs during their time in the primary program. A minimum of three informal measures can include:
Formal Test Data (MAP, DRA)
Behavior Inventories (available from your school’s TAG Teacher)
Parent Interview or Questionnaire
Anecdotal Records from Classroom Observations
Portfolio Evidence
Continuous Progress Data
Feel free to contact the TAG (Talented and Gifted) Teacher at your school for additional information:

New Immunizations to be aware of for your student!
Parents and Guardians,
New regulations were passed in Kentucky that will require additional vaccinations for your student to attend school. The new law adds Hepatitis A and a second Meningococcal vaccine to the list of required immunizations. This new law goes into effect on July 1, 2018.
1) The Hepatitis A vaccination series is comprised of two vaccinations received 6-months apart. This vaccination series will be required for every student. The CDC has recommended this vaccination series for several years, so many children may have already received this two-dose series but since it was not a requirement for school attendance, it was not listed on most immunization certificates.
2) Another new immunization requirement is for students who are 16 years old and older. In addition to the Hepatitis A requirement (above), those students who are 16 or older will also be required to receive a second Meningococcal vaccine. The first Meningococcal vaccine was required between the ages of 11-12, upon entry into 6th grade.
A new immunization certificate will be required for every student at the beginning of the 2018-19 school year. PLEASE CHECK WITH YOUR CHILD'S PHYSICIAN TO DETERMINE WHAT YOUR STUDENT NEEDS TO MEET THIS REQUIREMENT AND OBTAIN A NEW IMMUNIZATION CERTIFICATE.
Please visit www.shelby.kyschools.us for more information and to view the new documents.
NOTE: If you select to decline immunizations based on religious reasons, you will
also find the KY revised Declination to Immunization form to complete at the link above. Please review this document carefully as the requirements for completion have changed.
Thank you for your time and attention in making sure your child is meeting all of the vaccination requirements for school attendance.
Believe it or not...Some Summer Camp information!
