Family Updates for October 9
Good Afternoon Remote Middle School Families,
I hope this week finds you all safe and healthy. It was very uplifting to see so many families in attendance for our Grade 6 Curriculum Night this past Monday. Overall, the feedback for the event was exceedingly positive and families found the presentations extremely informative. I am hoping that the turnout will be just as good, if not better, for our Grades 7 & 8 Curriculum Night on Tuesday, October 13 from 6:00 pm -7:30 pm.
As we move into this coming week we will reach the midway point for our first academic quarter. Teachers are busy making sure their gradebooks are updated so that families have a good sense of how learning is progressing in each class. I would ask that families spend time this coming week to review your child’s progress in each of their classes. Consider asking questions to your child such as those below as a means to engage them in reflection on their own learning progress.
What activities have you found most engaging this year?
What activities have you found most challenging so far?
What are two things that you are proud of (or doing well in) this year?
What are 1-2 things you can do to improve your success in your remote classes?
What things are impacting your ability to do better?
As we move into this coming week, I did want to remind you all that there is no school on Monday in observance of Indigenous Peoples Day. Please enjoy the long weekend and we look forward to seeing you back on Tuesday.
Below are some reminders and updates for your family. Please take time to review this information and forward any questions you might have.
Your partner in education,
Timothy Kessler, Ed.D.
Just another reminder - There is NO SCHOOL on Monday.
The first is a template that allows you to add in your teacher meeting link codes in order to more easily navigate which classes you have and on what day and time. Please feel free to make a copy of this and fill it out with information related to your specific schedule.
The second is a copy of the Assignment Planner Template that I shared last week. Again, please feel free to make a copy and add in the information to help you complete your assignments for the week.
Middle School Curriculum Night
We are excited to announce that we have set the dates for our Middle School Curriculum Nights. Due to safety concerns, we will be holding this event virtually. Curriculum Night is a great opportunity for you to meet many of your students’ teachers and to learn more about what they are learning in their classes. Please note that this is not a time for parents to ask individual questions of the teacher or to talk about the individual progress of your student. The opportunity for you to do so will be available to you during our fall conferences later in the year.
To help ensure that you are able to access these presentations, you will need to be signed in through a gmail account. If you do not have your own gmail account, we would ask that you sign-in with your child’s school WHPS Google Account before accessing the links below - this will guarantee that you can access these meeting links.
RLE School Pictures - Save the Dates
We are excited to announce that students in the RLE will have an opportunity to have their pictures taken by a professional photographer for inclusion in their sending school’s yearbook and for you to purchase! RLE students/families can attend whichever session is most convenient for them. Numerous protocols will be followed to ensure optimal safety (6+ foot distancing, sanitizing between each student, masks required with the exception of the taking of the picture, limited exposure to the building, etc.). More information about this will be shared in the coming weeks as details are clarified.
Date 1: Wednesday November 4th from 1:30pm - 3:30pm at Sedgwick
Date 2: Wednesday November 18th from 1:30pm - 3:30pm at KP
Principal’s Coffee - Tuesday, October 27th
Please consider attending an opportunity to attend an open discussion with us. These meetings are unstructured and serve as a time to allow parents the opportunity to ask questions. To help accommodate as many families as possible, we will offer a morning session and evening session. While we would hope that you would be able to attend one of these times, please note that these discussions often lead to shares in the weekly newsletter.
After School Programming
After School Programming at KP
Mrs. Wright sent an email earlier this week with information related to their initial offerings. Please access the links below to access this information.
After School Programming at Sedgwick and Bristow
Bristow and Sedgwick are working hard to finalize these opportunities for their students. They are expecting to share their opportunities in the coming weeks.
After School Activities - Update
All three schools are working hard to establish after school opportunities for students to engage with their peers. Students will be able to participate in the activities of their sending schools. All such activities will be held remotely.
Online Learning Tip - Accessing PowerSchool
There was a request at the 6th Grade Curriculum Night for information about PowerSchool Parent Portal. Listed below are some resources to help you navigate this process:
